Abstract

Punctuality is a crucial aspect of academic discipline that significantly influences the quality of the learning process. However, the phenomenon of students arriving late to class remains a common issue in higher education settings. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of shaping techniques in developing punctual behavior among university students who frequently arrive late to class. Shaping is a behavioral approach that involves reinforcing successive approximations toward a target behavior. This research employed a single-subject experimental design (A-B-A) involving three university students identified as having chronic tardiness behavior. The intervention was conducted over eight sessions, with data collected through direct observation and self-monitoring. The results showed a significant reduction in lateness frequency and duration following the intervention, with all subjects demonstrating consistent punctual behavior by the end of the program. The subjects reported increased self-awareness and motivation to maintain punctuality. This study concludes that shaping techniques are effective in developing punctual behavior among university students and can serve as an alternative intervention for addressing academic discipline issues in higher education institutions.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of behavior modification in improving independent living skills in a child with intellectual disability. A single-subject approach was employed over an eight-week intervention period involving a 10-year-old child with mild intellectual disability. The intervention incorporated behavior modification techniques, including task analysis, prompting, fading, positive reinforcement, and token economy. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews with parents and teachers, and behavioral documentation conducted before, during, and after the intervention. The findings indicated a gradual improvement in the child's ability to perform daily living activities independently, including handwashing, dressing, organizing school materials, and maintaining personal hygiene. The child also demonstrated increased initiative, self-confidence, and reduced dependence on adult assistance in both school and home environments. The consistent application of positive reinforcement and systematic reduction of prompts contributed to the maintenance and generalization of independent behaviors across different settings. These findings suggest that behavior modification is an effective intervention for enhancing adaptive functioning and independence in children with intellectual disability. Collaboration among teachers, parents, and caregivers is essential to sustain behavioral changes and promote long-term independence in everyday life.

Abstract

This community service program aims to explore and understand the phenomenon of people-pleasing behavior among university students. People-pleasing is defined as a behavioral pattern focused on fulfilling others' needs and expectations while neglecting personal needs, often driven by fear of rejection and a strong need for social validation . This behavior has been linked to various negative psychological outcomes, including emotional exhaustion, stress, and decreased self-esteem . The program employed a qualitative phenomenological approach to gain an in-depth understanding of students' subjective experiences. A total of seven students actively involved in student organizations participated in the program, which consisted of three main phases: pre-intervention assessment through in-depth interviews, intervention implementation including psychoeducational sessions and assertiveness training, and post-intervention evaluation through reflective interviews . The findings reveal that people-pleasing behavior among students arises from a strong need for external validation, fear of rejection, and social pressures, including complex organizational roles. Participants experienced significant psychological impacts, such as emotional exhaustion, stress, guilt, and loss of personal identity. Nonetheless, several students have started to develop awareness of the importance of setting personal boundaries and implementing strategies to maintain their psychological well-being, including learning to say no, setting priorities, and building healthier social relationships . This program contributes to the development of evidence-based mental health interventions in higher education settings and highlights the importance of addressing maladaptive interpersonal patterns early in young adulthood.

Abstract

The rapid growth of TikTok has significantly changed digital behavior, particularly among adolescents and young adults. Although the platform offers entertainment, educational content, and social interaction, excessive use has been associated with unhealthy lifestyles, including poor sleep quality, reduced physical activity, decreased productivity, and psychological problems such as stress and anxiety. This study aims to synthesize recent evidence on behavior modification strategies that can reduce excessive TikTok use and promote a healthier lifestyle. The study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Articles were retrieved from Scopus, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Garuda databases, with publications limited to the period 2020–2026. Thirty-five eligible studies were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that integrated behavior modification strategies, including self-monitoring, stimulus control, goal setting, habit substitution, self-regulation, and social support, are more effective than single-component interventions in reducing problematic TikTok use. These strategies not only decrease screen time but also contribute to improved sleep quality, increased physical activity, enhanced productivity, and better psychological well-being. The review concludes that behavior modification provides a comprehensive and sustainable approach to encouraging healthy digital lifestyles and may serve as a conceptual foundation for future intervention programs and digital health promotion.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the implementation of the shaping technique in developing handwashing habits among early childhood children. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest method. The participants were 15 children aged 4–5 years selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using an observation checklist that assessed children's handwashing behavior before and after the intervention. The shaping technique was implemented gradually by reinforcing behaviors that increasingly approximated the target behavior through positive reinforcement, including verbal praise and reward stickers. The intervention was conducted over four weeks. The findings indicated a significant improvement in children's handwashing habits after the implementation of the shaping technique. Children became more independent in washing their hands, consistently used soap, and followed the correct handwashing procedures. These results suggest that the shaping technique is an effective behavior modification strategy for establishing healthy hygiene habits in early childhood. The study concludes that the systematic application of shaping can support teachers and parents in promoting clean and healthy behaviors from an early age, thereby contributing to disease prevention and children's overall well-being.

Abstract

Social changes in the digital era have contributed to the emergence of various maladaptive behaviors that may hinder individual development, creating the need for effective strategies to establish sustainable positive habits. This study aims to analyze the role of behavior modification through positive reinforcement in developing new positive habits based on the perspective of behavioral psychology and previous research findings. A qualitative approach was employed using the library research method. Secondary data were collected from books, scientific journal articles, theses, and other relevant academic publications. The data were analyzed using content analysis through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that behavior modification is an effective approach to developing adaptive behaviors through the systematic application of learning principles. Positive reinforcement increases the likelihood of desirable behaviors recurring by providing pleasant consequences. Positive habit formation occurs gradually through the emergence of target behaviors, reinforcement, consistent repetition, and internalization until the behaviors become part of daily life. The synthesis of previous studies demonstrates that positive reinforcement can be effectively applied in educational, family, organizational, and community settings as a sustainable strategy for developing positive habits consistently over time.
