Abstract

Bougainvillea glabra is a popular ornamental plant in Indonesia that contains various phytochemicals that may exhibit antibacterial, antioxidant, and photoprotective activities. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity, antioxidant capacity, and SPF value of methanolic extracts of B. glabra flowers. Antibacterial activity was evaluated using the disc diffusion method, while antioxidant activity and SPF value were determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The extract showed antibacterial activity against S. aureus, strong antioxidant activity (IC50 = 62.13 µg/mL), and an SPF value of 12.74. Methanolic extract of B. glabra flowers has potential as a natural antibacterial, antioxidant, and sunscreen agent.
