Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving the maharah kalam (Arabic speaking skills) of seventh-grade female students at Pondok Pesantren Islam Putri Ar-Rohmah Ngawi, East Java. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of this study consisted of one Arabic language teacher and 20 seventh-grade female students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The learning process utilized Al-‘Arabiyah Baina Yadaik Volume 1 as the primary instructional material integrated with project-based learning activities. The implementation of PjBL was conducted through several stages, including determining project themes, group discussions, dialogue preparation, project presentation, and evaluation. The findings revealed that the implementation of the PjBL model positively contributed to improving students’ Arabic speaking skills. Students became more active, confident, and enthusiastic in participating in Arabic learning activities. In addition, students demonstrated improvements in vocabulary mastery, pronunciation, fluency, and their ability to communicate using Arabic in daily contexts. The learning atmosphere also became more interactive, collaborative, and student-centered. Therefore, the Project Based Learning model can serve as an effective and innovative alternative in enhancing maharah kalam learning in Islamic boarding school environments.
