Abstract

Preeclampsia is a life-threatening obstetric complication and a major contributor to maternal mortality worldwide, accounting for 10–15% of all maternal deaths. In Indonesia, postpartum hemorrhage remains the leading cause of maternal death, contributing to approximately 30% of cases. Hypertension during pregnancy accompanied by proteinuria not only endangers maternal health but also increases the risk of postpartum hemorrhage. Therefore, understanding the relationship between the severity of preeclampsia and the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage is crucial for developing effective prevention and management strategies, especially at the primary healthcare level. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the gradation of preeclampsia severity and the occurrence of postpartum hemorrhage among mothers giving birth at the Tepeleo Inpatient Health Center UPTD. The research used a quantitative cross-sectional design involving 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data collected included demographic characteristics, severity of preeclampsia, clinical parameters such as blood pressure and proteinuria, mode of delivery, and types of postpartum hemorrhage. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that most respondents were aged 20–35 years (63.3%), had secondary education, and were multiparous (43.3%). Mild preeclampsia accounted for 73.3%, while severe cases were 26.7%. Uterine atony was the most common cause of hemorrhage (56.7%). Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between preeclampsia severity and postpartum hemorrhage (p = 0.007).

Abstract

The maternal mortality rate in Indonesia remains high, reaching 305 per 100,000 live births in 2021, with one contributing factor being the lack of maternal knowledge regarding pregnancy danger signs. Prenatal classes are considered a strategic intervention to improve pregnant women’s understanding of critical warning signs such as bleeding, severe abdominal pain, and infection symptoms. This study aims to analyze the influence of pregnancy classes on pregnant women’s knowledge of danger signs. The research employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach involving 30 pregnant women selected through purposive sampling at several community health centers. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires, with measurements conducted before (pre-test) and after (post-test) participants attended at least three prenatal classes. Data analysis used descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with SPSS. The results showed that most respondents were aged 20–35 years (63.3%), had a high school education (36.7%), were housewives (60.0%), and multigravida (56.7%). Before the intervention, 50% had poor knowledge and only 20% had good knowledge. After attending prenatal classes, 63.3% achieved good knowledge, while only 10% remained in the poor category. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference (p = 0.000). Thus, prenatal classes effectively improve knowledge and support early detection of complications, potentially reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.

Abstract

Sleep quality is essential for infant development, impacting brain growth, immune function, and emotional health. Approximately 30% of infants experience sleep disorders, which can negatively affect both infants and parents. Baby massage therapy is a holistic, non-invasive approach that may improve sleep quality in infants. This study aimed to assess the impact of baby massage therapy on the sleep quality of infants aged 0-12 months at the Madonna Clinic, South Kalimantan. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was used, involving 30 healthy infants selected through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of baby massage therapy administered by trained therapists twice a week for 4 weeks. Sleep quality was measured using a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index adaptation before and after the therapy. Results showed that the average sleep quality score before therapy was 6.40 (SD 1.15), which increased to 8.20 (SD 0.96) after therapy. Data analysis using the Paired Sample T-Test revealed a significant improvement (mean difference of -1.80, t = -8.42, p = 0.000). In conclusion, baby massage therapy significantly improved the sleep quality of infants. This safe, non-pharmacological intervention is effective in addressing sleep problems and fostering emotional bonding between parents and infants.
