<![CDATA[ABSTRAK Router adalah sebuah device yang berfungsi untuk meneruskan paket-paket dari sebuah network ke network lainnya (baik LAN ke LAN atau LAN ke WAN) sehingga host-host yang ada pada sebuah network bisa berkomunikasi dengan host-host yang ada pada network yang lain. Router menghubungkan network-network tersebut pada network layer dari model OSI, sehingga secara teknis Router adalah Layer 3 Gateway. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan router Linksys WAG 120N karena dianggap cukup handal dilihat dari sisi teknologi dan fungsinya, yaitu adanya penghematan hardware (efisiensi) dan berdasarkan fungsinya sebagai router gateway dapat digunakan sebagai kabel bahkan merangkap sebagai WiFi. Selain itu router tersebut memiliki fitur keamanan yang sangat tinggi, yaitu double-firewall, serta mendukung sistem keamanan koneksi wireless yang paling akhir yaitu Wi-Fi Protected Access baik WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK dari 64-bit dan 128-bit enkripsi dan mendukung VPN pass-through untuk melakukan koneksi lewat tunneling dengan aman baik melalui Protocol PPTP ataupun L2TP/IPSec. Dengan beberapa kali uji coba baik secara wireless maupun kabel, router Linksys WAG 120N sangat handal walau merangkap sebagai wifi. Bandwidth untuk jaringan kabel terpisah dengan bandwidth untuk jaringan wireless sehingga kecepatan akses internet maupun transfer data pada jaringan dapat dihandalkan. Kata kunci : Router, Network, Gateway, Linksys ABSTRACT Router is a device for throwing packages to another network (LAN or WAN), so one host can communicate with another host. Router connect one network to another in network layer of OSI. Technically, router is Layer 3 Gateway. In this research, router Linksys WAG 120N was used because it is very reliable in term of technology and function, also it is good in efficiency because can be used as wifi. This router also has security feature with double-firewall and support the latest wireless security: WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, both for 64-bit and 128-bit encryption and support the VPN Pass-through for tunneling connection with PPTP and L2TP/IPsec protocol. By testing using this router, it showed that Linksys WAG 120N is very reliable as a wifi router. The network between cabling and wireless is separated so the speed access for internet is good enough.
