Abstract

The Computer Laboratory of MAN 2 Tasikmalaya uses a cable-based LAN with a star topology but experienced file sharing disruptions after migration to Windows 11, where distribution of learning materials from teacher to students could not be performed despite various solutions having been attempted. This study aims to evaluate network performance, physical infrastructure conditions, and identify the causes of file sharing disruptions. The method uses the Network Development Life Cycle (NDLC) with a descriptive quantitative approach. Testing was conducted on 5 client computers using ping to measure delay, packet loss, and jitter, and iperf3 based on Docker for throughput measurement. The results show the network is in a very good category according to the TIPHON standard with delay of 0–3 ms, packet loss of 0%, and jitter of 0.3–1.6 ms. Throughput testing using Windows 10 as a comparison yielded values of 89.57–106.85 Mbps, proving the network infrastructure is in optimal condition. No significant damage was found in the physical network infrastructure. File sharing disruption is caused by the default Windows 11 configuration that restricts SMB protocol communication, not network quality. This study contributes as a reference for NDLC-based LAN network evaluation in educational laboratory environments, particularly in identifying the influence of operating system configuration on local network services.
