Abstract

Sandtray therapy involves the use of verbal, audio-visual and touch sensory that will make counselling sessions more comprehensive. Researches executed the interview and observation method in this qualitative study which involved four teenage girls at a shelter home. The data was obtained through verbal communication in group counselling using sandtray therapy and images of miniature arrangement in the sandtray, and was analysed using thematic process. The findings showed how sandtray therapy could help clients to visualize the issues more effectively and helped the counsellor to identify issues. Clients also showed positive emotional development and gained insights easier when they realized the negative emotions they held. Results of this study supported the use of sandtray therapy for girls in shelter homes.

Abstract

Intelligence is the ability to learn, understand, reason and solve problems effectively and the ability to contribute positively to the societies. This study was conducted to identify the multiple intelligence stage and career interest patterns among 77 secondary school students. This study is a quantitative that represents descriptive data analysis. The Inventory of Multiple Intelligence and Inventory of Career Interest were analyze using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The result of the study shows that the level of intelligence of form 3 students is moderate. A total of nine intelligence domains, verbal/visual linguistic is at moderate level of 54.2%, Naturalistic 51.8%, Visual Spatial domain is at 49.4%, Kinesthetic and Intrapersonal both at 47%, followed by Mathematic at 41%, Music and Interpersonal each at 34.9%. Existential domain is the lowest percentage in the study at 27.7%. This study suggests to examine the correlation of multiple intelligence and career interest toward academic achievement among students.

Abstract

Intelligence is one ability to respond successfully to a new situation and the capacity to learn from one’s past experiences. While interest is a strong motivation that drives actionsand determined by personality factors. This study aims to observethe relationship between multiple intelligence and career interests among secondary students. It used correlation methodto identify the relationship between multipleintelligence variables and career interests.All 77 Form Three students were involved in this study. The research instruments used were Multiple Intelligence Inventory and Career Interest Inventory. This data was analysed by using a Pearson statistical correlation type of SPSS Version 23. The finding of this study shows that there isa moderate and significant relationship between multiple intelligence and career interest. This finding also shows that the higher intelligence range, the more congruent personality patterns. This implies the tendency of personality patterns as a predictor of emotional intelligence. Further studyis suggested to usean appropriate and structured intervention in research methodology.

Abstract

Addiction counseling is one of the critical components in substance use disorders (SUD) as it helps individuals to identify problematic behaviours and change them into positive. Sand tray therapy is an approach in the counselling process in order to explore the problems and issues of the client. The purpose of this study is to measure the effectiveness of the sandtray therapy in increasing the motivation towards change among adolescent substance abuse at Cure and Care (CnC), the residential substance abuse treatment facility supervised by the National Anti Drug Agency (AADK) in District of Kota Bharu, state of Kelantan.This was a quantitative research using repeated-measure on pre and post test among 32 adolescent substance abuse. This study employed The Stage of Change and Treatment Eagerness Scale (SOCRATES). Result shows that sandtray therapy approach has been found to increase the motivation among adolescent subtance abuse to change. The discussion of findings, study implication and future direction are also included.

Abstract

The family support system gives an impact among recovering adolescent. The aim of this study is to explore the element of support system among recovering adolescent drug addicts using sandtray therapy approach. This is a case study involving four recovering adolescent at the Clinic Cure & Care Clinic, National Anti-Drug Agency, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. The thematic process was used to analize the process of group sandtray therapy and the arrangement of the miniature in the sandtray. The findings show that recovering adolescent drug addicts need family as a support system, however their families were not functioning in the prevention and recovery process. Besides that, the results show that there are three vital themesof family support system, namely: 1) family issues, 2) family structure and 3) ideal family characteristics.

Abstract

The element of spirituality plays an important role in addiction counselling and recovery of an addict. The purpose of this study was to examine the differences on spirituality level before and after intervention using sandtray therapy. This study was a quasi-experimental repeated-measure design utilizing the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES). A total of 32 recovering adolescent addicts were involved in six sessions of group counselling at a government-linked drug treatment and rehabilitation facility in Malaysia. The result shows that there was a significant difference in the mean scores for pre- and post-tests. However, there was no significant difference between pre-test and post-test after having the group counselling sandtray intervention (t = -0.538, p <0.05). The discussion of findings, study implication and future direction were also discussed. This study proposes to involve the control group in a follow-up study to examine the differences on the element of spirituality between control group and treatment group.
