Abstract

Abstract Background: Dental caries is a common problem in children and one of the causes of delayed dental treatment is dental anxiety. Lack of knowledge about dental care procedures is one factor that can be improved by providing education using media such as audiovisual and tell-show-do. Objective: To analyze the difference in fear levels using the modified dental anxiety scale in children aged 7-12 years before and after counseling using audiovisual and tell-show-do media. Method: This research approach of a quasi-experiment with a one-group pre-test-posttest design using a simple random sampling method with a sample size of 40 children then divided into 2 groups and announced that a dental examination will be carried out to trigger anxiety. Results: Significant values were obtained in the audiovisual group (p=0.484, p>0.05) and tell-show-do group (p=0.005, p≤0.05). Conclusion: There exists a noteworthy distinction in the tell-show-do group before and after counseling, while there was no notable distinction noted in the audiovisual group before and after counseling.
