Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ perceptions of PLP II student-teachers at SMA Al-Iman Ulu Ale. The School Field Introduction Program II (PLP II) is an advanced stage of PLP I designed to strengthen student-teachers’ academic teaching competence and subject-matter competence through various school-based activities, including curriculum analysis, learning strategies and evaluation, instructional material development, the use of information and communication technology, teaching practice, and assistance in teachers’ administrative tasks. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach. The research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 20 statements using a four-point Likert scale, covering pedagogical, social, personality, and learning impact aspects. The respondents were 33 students of SMAS Al-Iman Uluale. The data analysis showed that the mean score of students’ perceptions was 65.06 out of a maximum score of 80, with an achievement percentage of 81.33%, indicating a high category. These findings reveal that students had positive perceptions of PLP II student-teachers, particularly in their ability to deliver learning materials, build positive interaction, demonstrate good attitudes and personality, and contribute positively to students’ learning motivation and interest. Therefore, the implementation of PLP II at SMA Al-Iman Ulu Ale received positive responses from students and supported the learning process at school.

Abstract

The School Field Introduction Program (PLP) II is a strategic phase in preparing prospective professional teachers while strengthening university–school partnerships. At UPT SMAN 6 Sidrap, PLP II was implemented from 1 October to 30 November 2025 by a field supervising lecturer and four students from Indonesian Language Education and English Language Education study programs. The activities focused on activity-based language learning assistance oriented toward higher order thinking skills (HOTS) in grade XI and XII classes. Together with mentor teachers, the students designed and implemented lessons on descriptive text, exposition text, hikayat, and pantun through role play, debates, game-based learning, writing tasks, and the use of video media. Data were collected through classroom observations, daily activity logs, reflective notes, and documentation, then analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach. The results indicate that varied activity-based strategies increased student engagement and fostered the abilities to analyze, evaluate, and create in language learning, in line with HOTS characteristics. At the same time, the students gained authentic experience in designing learning tools, managing classrooms, and conducting reflection, thereby strengthening their pedagogical competence. These findings suggest that PLP II can be developed as a community service model based on school–university partnership to enhance language learning at the senior high school level.
