Abstract

Developing HOTS-based try-out questions to improve the graduate quality of Geography teacher professional education students The availability of assessment instruments capable of measuring higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) remains limited, despite the importance of these skills for teachers to move beyond a focus on factual knowledge. This limitation poses a challenge in preparing prospective professional teachers. This study aims to develop an appropriate, valid and reliable Higher Order Thinking Skills-based test instrument for students of the Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) in Geography. This study employs the ADDIE development model, which consists of the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through expert validation sheets and trial test results to assess the quality of the test items. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively based on expert judgments and quantitatively through tests of validity, reliability, discrimination index, and item difficulty. The results indicate that the majority of the developed items meet the criteria of validity and reliability, with acceptable levels of difficulty and good discrimination indices. Based on item analysis, some items are suitable for immediate use, others require revision, and a few should be discarded. Therefore, the developed HOTS-based instrument has the potential to be used as an evaluation tool to support PPG students’ examination preparation in Geography. Ketersediaan instrumen penilaian yang mampu mengukur keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi masih terbatas, padahal penguasaan keterampilan ini sangat krusial bagi guru agar tidak hanya terpaku pada aspek pengetahuan faktual saja. Kurangnya instrumen penilaian tersebut menjadi kendala dalam mempersiapkan calon guru profesional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan instrument soal try-out berbasis Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) yang layak, valid dan reliabel bagi mahasiswa Program Pendidikan Profesi Guru (PPG) bidang studi Geografi. Penelitian ini menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE yang terdiri atas tahap Analyze (Analisis), Design (Desain), Development (Pengembangan), Implementation (Implementasi), dan Evaluate (Evaluasi). Data dikumpulkan melalui lembar validasi ahli dan hasil tes uji coba yang digunakan untuk mengukur kualitas butir soal. Analisis data data dilakukan secara kualitatif berdasarkan penilaian dari validator dan secara kuantitatif melalui uji validitas, reliabilitas, daya beda, dan tingkat kesukaran butir soal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas soal try-out yang dikembangkan memenuhi kriteria valid, reliabel, serta memiliki tingkat kesulitan dan daya beda yang baik. Berdasarkan analisis butir, sebagian soal disarankan dapat langsung digunakan, sebagian dapat digunakan dengan revisi, dan sebagian lainnya digugurkan. Dengan demikian, instrument soal try-out berbasis HOTS ini berpotensi dapat digunakan sebagai alat evaluasi dalam mendukung kesiapan ujian mahasiswa PPG bidang studi Geografi.
