Abstract

Research has been conducted on the analysis of radiation doses received by the rectum and bladder of cervical cancer patients using 2D and 3D-CT methods in brachytherapy at the Radiation Oncology Installation of Andalas University Hospital. The study used data on cervical cancer patients stage IIB-IVA, as many as 10 patient data using the 2 Dimensional (2D) method and 10 patient data using the Three Dimensional Computed Tomography (3D-CT) method. Analysis was performed by comparing 2D and 3D-CT brachytherapy methods. The results showed that the average radiation dose value received by the rectum of patients using the 3D-CT method was 491.31 cGy and the 2D method was 466.13 cGy, while in the bladder the average radiation dose received by patients using the 3D-CT method was 448.39 and the 2D method was 480.30. The results showed that the average radiation dose using the 3D-CT method was greater than the 2D method, but the dose received by the rectum and bladder did not exceed the tolerance limit set by the American Brachytherapy society (ABS).

Abstract

Research on the analysis of radiation dose on hematological parameters based on demographic factors of radiation workers has been conducted at Dr. M. Djamil Hospital Padang. The study aims to analyze the impact of radiation dose on hematological parameters of radiation workers and to evaluate the role of demographic factors such as age, years of service, profession, and work unit in determining the hematological condition of workers. The study utilized secondary data on radiation dose levels of radiation workers from 2022-2023, measured using Thermoluminescence Dosimeter (TLD) badges, and secondary hematological data from the same period obtained from the results of Medical Check-Ups (MCU) of radiation workers. The relationship between radiation dose, hematological parameters (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets), and demographic factors was evaluated using ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis statistical analysis tests. The results of the study showed that the radiation dose received did not significantly affect hematological parameters. However, age and work experience significantly influenced red blood cell counts. Occupation and work unit did not show a significant relationship with hematological parameters.

Abstract

Research on verification of the radiation dose of a 6 MV and 10 MV photon beam on Clinac CX type Linear Accelerator (LINAC) has been conducted at Andalas University Hospital. This research aims to determine the radiation beam correction factor to obtain measured dose values and obtain the value of absorbed dose verification value based on the Technical Report Series (TRS) No. 398 International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The research began with planning on the CT-simulator. Furthermore, the measurement of radiation dose on the phantom slab using a Clinac CX type LINAC therapy aircraft with a farmer chamber ionization detector, target depth variations of 1,5 cm, 2,5 cm, and 10 cm, and field area variations of (6×6) cm2, (10×10) cm2, (15×15) cm2, (8×13,3) cm2, dan (9×11,5) cm2. Furthermore, radiation dose verification is carried out by comparing the radiation dose at the TPS to the dose measured using the farmer chamber ionization detector. The absorbed dose value obtained based on the planning dose at the TPS increased at maximum depth and decreased as the depth of the irradiation field increased. Verification of the radiation dose that meets the tolerance limit is below 5%. The appropriate measurement results were obtained at a maximum depth (Dmax) of 2,5 cm, except at depths of 1,5 cm and 10 cm.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain Quality Control information on the quality of the photon beam and radiation field used for the maximum depth value (Zmak) from the results of Percentage Depth Dose measurements as well as the symmetry and flatness values from the results of profile dose measurements using symmetric and asymmetric radiation fields of (10x10) cm2 and (15x15) cm2 with AAPM TG-40 standards. The results of Quality Control carried out on the LINAC show that the greater the photon beam energy and the area of the field given, the greater the maximum depth value (Zmak) obtained. In the profile dose measurement, the largest symmetry value was obtained in the 1 cm offset section of 2.8% for 6 MV energy using the (10x10) cm2 field and the largest flatness value in the 3 cm off-set section of 1.9% while for 10 MV energy the largest symmetry value in the 3 cm off-set section was 4.3% and the largest flatness value in the 1 cm off-set section was 2.3%. In the field area (15x15) cm2, the largest symmetry values of 6 MV and 10 MV energy were obtained at the 3 cm off-set section of 3.7% and 4.3%, and the largest flatness values of 6 MV and 10 MV energy were found at the 3 cm off-set section of 2.3% and 2.1%. Therefore, the symmetry and asymmetry fields (1 cm off-set) on the LINAC are reliable enough to be used in cancer therapy treatment.
