Abstract

The increasing awareness of food safety and halal product status has become a critical issue in the food industry, particularly following the implementation of mandatory halal certification in Indonesia. The Halal Center of Politeknik ATK has been designated as a Halal Product Process Assistance Agency (LP3H), responsible for assisting micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in the halal certification process through the self-declare scheme. However, limited understanding of food safety principles and halal regulations among halal advisors remains a key challenge, potentially hindering certification processes. This study aims to enhance participants’ understanding of food safety principles and halal regulatory requirements through an in-house training program. The training was delivered using lectures, interactive discussions, and case studies, involving 20 participants consisting of halal advisors and prospective advisors from academic staff and the general public.A mixed-method evaluation was conducted using pre-tests, post-tests, and questionnaires. The results showed an increase in the average score from 83.5 in the pre-test to 93.68 in the post-test, indicating improved participant understanding. Participants also reported high satisfaction with the quality of the materials, instructor competence, and overall training implementation. These findings indicate that training on food safety and halal regulations is an effective strategy for enhancing knowledge and awareness, thereby supporting the implementation of halal product assurance and certification in Indonesia

Abstract

Avian Influenza (AI), Infectious Bronchitis (IB), and Newcastle Disease (ND) often infect broilers and layers. This study aimed to identify the immunological response of laying hens following vaccination against AI, IB, and ND. Laying hens received a multivalent vaccine containing AI, IB, and ND antigens at 18 and 45 weeks of age. Subsequently, antibody titers were assessed as a measure of the post-vaccination response. Blood samples were collected on days 7, 14, and 21 post – vaccination. Blood samples were collected from the brachial vein of laying hens that had been previously vaccinated. Data will be analyzed descriptively, and comparisons will be made in accordance with existing literature. The variables examined included AI, IB, and ND antibody titers. Results from the hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test for ND and AI antibodies demonstrated a notable increase in titers over the observation period. At day 0, the mean antibody titers for ND and AI were 2.5 and 4.6, respectively, suggesting that baseline antibody levels prior to the post-vaccination immune response were optimal. The ELISA IB test results were seropositive in all samples, both before and 21 days after vaccination. This indicates that all chickens already had antibodies against the IB virus. The study concluded that the highest protective antibody titers for AI, ND, and IB vaccines occurred between days 14 and 21 for AI and IB. Meanwhile, for ND, a decline in protection is observed after day 14, attributable to several factors including vaccine efficacy not guaranteeing complete protection, the timing of administration, the vaccine dose and route of administration, human error (particularly with injectable routes), and the specific strain used. Implementing biosecurity measures within poultry houses is crucial to prevent ND transmission.

Abstract

The use of traditional plants can be used as natural antibacterial in preventing and treating infectious wound diseases caused by Staphylococcus aureus. One of the plants that can be used is bitter leaf. Sambiloto leaves contain several substances that can be used as antibacterial including alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins. The purpose of this study were to determine the lowest concentration of bitter leaf extract (Andrographis paniculata, Nees) which can inhibit and kill Staphylococcus aureus field isolates in vitro by dilution method. This research was expected to provide information on the benefits of bitter leaf as a drug that can be used in the treatment of infections against Staphylococcus aureus. This study used the dilution method which included Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bacteriocid Concentration (MBC). The test results showed that bitter leaf extract (Andrographis paniculata, Nees) had the ability to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus starting at a concentration of 25% and had the ability to kill Staphylococcus aureus starting at a concentration of 50%.

Abstract

Reusing leather waste is a global challenge in leather processing industry. Utilizing shaving leather waste using cost-effective mechanical methods can be used. Shaving waste is used as a filler for Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) based synthetic leather. The amount of shaving waste used was varied, f1: 8%, s2: 15%, and f3: 20%. This research was conducted to determine the characteristic of synthetic leather derived from shaving leather waste including organoleptic and mechanical properties. The research method was carried in three stages, first was preparation, second was formulation, and third was testing. Testing is carried out based on the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 1294;2009. The organoleptic results showed that there were no bubbles, cracks, wrinkles, and stains. The tensile strength values at f1, f2, and f3 were 10,433, 6,614, and 5,557N/mm2. The longitudinal tear strength values f4, f8, dan f12 were 25,972, 42,285, and 58,807N while the transverse tear strength values were 20,197N for f4, 38,009N for f8, and 54,288N for f12. The elongation test results for f4, f8, dan f12 were 54,862, 44,588, and 42,523% respectively. The addition of shaving waste of 8%, 15%, and 20% provides synthetic leather conditions that meet organoleptic and elongation standard. Meanwhile, the tensile strength and tear strength does not meet SNI because there was influence from composition/formulation on of other additives.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries that have contributed to the apparel, leather, and textile industry in the international market. Not only that, but Indonesian MSME handicrafts are also one of the commodities that can increase the country's foreign exchange, one of which is the lantung bark craft from Bengkulu. However, the creative industry is constantly facing competition with the entry of cheap products from China that get easy access with the increasing e-commerce technology. Providing value for the Lantung Bengkulu MSME products to compete locally and globally, one of the steps is to apply the Design Thinking Method and take the distinctive character of the stylized Serawai Tribe Weaving in the exploration process. The results of this study have obtained data that 47 Bengkulu women consumers as much as 89.4% like the results of the re-design and exploration of lantung shoes that have been designed. In determining the selling price of MSME Lantung Bengkulu should also set a price range of Rp. 110.000 to Rp. 500.000 because it corresponds to the purchasing power of female consumers in Bengkulu. The results of this study directly contribute to providing product value to the typical Bengkulu Lantung MSMEs. The Design Thinking method has been successfully increasing the value of the Lantung Bengkulu MSME products, this method can be applied to similar research to develop local MSMEs in Indonesia.

Abstract

Rapid globalization has led to the growth of a significant amount of waste, including in the industry. Due to the considerable amount of growth of waste every year, effective and efficient waste management is needed to protect our environment. In the leather product industry, waste management is strongly important since it may have a significant impact to the employee and production process. Regarding those issues, waste management technology is considered proposed in order to solve those problems. Current research reported the outstanding work of implementing artificial intelligence for detecting and recognizing industrial waste. Artificial intelligence was proven to be a highly recommended approach that is able to classify several waste types with outstanding performance. Regardless of those facts, artificial intelligence still remains several hurdles, such as the high computational demands, especially for deep learning networks. Regarding the mentioned issue, we proposed a more proper deep learning network for recognizing industrial waste. In this research work, we use Single Shot Detector (SSD) to recognize and classify industrial waste. Our proposed solution was performed in the TrashNet dataset and Waste Picture dataset. Our proposed solution successfully achieve mAP of 0.8813, accuracy of 0,9795, precision of 0,9985 and recall of 0,9693 in the training process. Whereas, in the testing process we achieve average accuracy of 0,8254. According to those results, we can conclude that our proposed solution is suitable for industrial waste detection and has potential to be implemented as an embedded system for recognizing industrial waste automatically.

Abstract

The skin is the largest organ of the body that can be infection. One of the causes of infections is microorganisms. The presence of Staphylococcus aureus on the skin of dairy cattle can affect the quality of leather. This research was conducted to isolate and identify S. aureus from the skin of injured dairy cattle. The sample was taken from a dairy farm in Surabaya. Isolation of S. aureus was carried out using NA and MSA selective media, while characterization was carried out using gram staining, catalase test, and coagulase test. The research results showed that samples isolated from wounds on the skin of dairy contained S. aureus. Gram staining test showed gram positive bacteria with coccus morphology and clustered arrangement. The catalase test was positive with the formation of H2O and O2. Catalase test was indicated by the formation of coagulation or clots in the blood plasma. These results indicated that the skin with contains S. aureus bacteria which can cause infection so that it can affect the quality of the skin to be tanned.
