Abstract

Abstract: The rapid development of the retail sector in Bali, especially with the emergence of modern malls, has had a significant impact on consumer shopping preferences, particularly in comparison to traditional markets. This study aims to analyze the comparison of consumer shopping preferences in Bali between malls and traditional markets based on four indicators: price, service, location, and product variety. Data was collected through questionnaires filled out by 134 respondents who shopped at both places. Analysis was conducted using the Paired Sample T-Test to test for differences in consumer preferences. The results showed that there was no statistically significant difference between consumer preferences for malls and traditional markets, although traditional markets had a slight advantage in terms of price, location, and product variety. The average consumer preference for malls was 3.07, while for traditional markets it was 3.27. Although there is a tendency showing consumer preference for traditional markets, both shopping places still have a strong appeal to Bali consumers. This study also identified that social and cultural factors, as well as ease of shopping, influence consumer choices. The limitations of this study lie in the limited number of respondents and the location, which is only limited to Bali. For further research, it is recommended to expand the number of respondents and research areas, as well as consider other factors such as digitalization and the influence of e-commerce in determining consumer shopping preferences.
