Abstract

The development of digital technology in the era of globalization has brought massive changes to the educational landscape and the mindset of the younger generation, while simultaneously opening gaps for the spread of extreme ideologies and intolerance. This study aims to analyze the concept and implementation of religious moderation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning as a pillar for national character building in the digital era, as well as to identify the accompanying challenges and opportunities. Utilizing a library research method, this article examines various Islamic literature, character education theories, and related educational policies. The results indicate that strengthening wasathiyah values—which include tawassuth (taking the middle path), tasamuh (tolerance), tawazun (balance), i’tidal (justice), and syura (consultation)—through dialogic-constructivist PAI learning effectively equips students with critical thinking skills and digital literacy. This integration not only shields the younger generation from exposure to digital radicalism but also internalizes public morality to build a religious, nationalistic, and inclusive national character. The synergy between teachers' pedagogical competence, an inclusive school culture, and the utilization of creative digital dawah content is key to the successful implementation of religious moderation today.
