Abstract

This study aims to analyze cooperatives, especially Koperasi Merah Putih, as an alternative medium for economic education, functioning as an “economic laboratory” for members. The method used is a systematic review of 10 journals through a strict selection protocol, focusing on data regarding financial literacy, human resource management, UMKM empowerment, and cooperative digitalization. The results show that high-quality services and cooperative education significantly improve financial risk literacy, reduce dependence on informal loans, enhance member participation, and strengthen household economic independence and resilience. Digitalization of cooperative management and the use of interactive platforms successfully expand the reach of education and increase trust among young members. In conclusion, cooperatives are not merely savings and credit institutions but effective media for economic education that build collective financial literacy and improve socioeconomic welfare for the community.

Abstract

Community economic independence is a pillar of national welfare, but is often hampered by dependence on third-party capital and limited financial management. This study aims to analyze the strategic role of the Merah Putih Cooperative in encouraging members' economic independence through inclusive capital access and business development. The method used is qualitative with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach and narrative review. Data were collected through the Google Scholar database with the inclusion criteria of articles published in the last ten years (2016–2026). A total of 10 selected articles were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to map cooperative strengthening strategies. The results show that cooperative economic independence rests on three main foundations: (1) Transparent and professional organizational governance, which has been proven to increase member loyalty by up to 30% and operational efficiency; (2) Strengthening human resource capacity and digital transformation, where the adoption of e-commerce and fintech technology can expand market access and increase the average income of members; and (3) Internalization of the value of cooperation reinforced by government regulatory support. A literature synthesis concludes that the integration of modern management and a spirit of collectivism makes the Merah Putih Cooperative an effective instrument for reducing economic disparities and strengthening people's economic sovereignty in the modern era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategic role of the Merah Putih Cooperative in empowering local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through a systematic review of current literature. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by reviewing 10 relevant journals over the past ten years from the Google Scholar database. The results of the study indicate that the institutional strengthening strategy through the preparation of mandatory administration and revision of the Articles of Association (AD/ART) can increase member compliance by up to 90% and a sense of ownership by 40%. In terms of human resource development, the managerial training program increases manager competency by 35%, which has implications for operational cost efficiency by 20%. Digital transformation through the implementation of accounting systems and digital marketplaces has been proven to increase operational efficiency by up to 45% and expand online market access for MSMEs by up to 50%. In addition, active participation of local communities and support from national government policies in the target of establishing 70,000 village cooperatives are the main drivers in increasing members' income by an average of 25%. The conclusion of this study confirms that the synergy between strengthening governance, technology adoption, and government policy support creates a resilient and sustainable people's economic ecosystem for MSMEs at the rural level.
