Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability of children aged 5–6 years to recognize number symbols at TK Pertiwi 14.06.14 Ampih, Buluspesantren District, Kebumen Regency. The study aimed to improve children’s ability to recognize number symbols through the learning by doing method. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and Taggart model, consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The study was conducted in two cycles involving 16 children in group B. Data were collected through observation and documentation, while data analysis used descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results showed that the learning by doing method was able to improve children’s ability to recognize number symbols. The percentage of success increased from 35% in the pre-cycle to 62% in cycle I and reached 87% in cycle II. Children became more active, confident, and capable of mentioning, matching, and arranging number symbols correctly. Therefore, the learning by doing method is effective in improving number symbol recognition skills in early childhood. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan mengenal lambang bilangan pada anak usia 5–6 tahun di TK Pertiwi 14.06.14 Ampih Kecamatan Buluspesantren Kabupaten Kebumen. Penelitian bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan mengenal lambang bilangan melalui metode learning by doing. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan Taggart yang terdiri atas perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Penelitian dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus dengan subjek 16 anak kelompok B. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi dan dokumentasi, sedangkan analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode learning by doing mampu meningkatkan kemampuan mengenal lambang bilangan anak. Persentase keberhasilan pada pra siklus sebesar 35%, meningkat menjadi 62% pada siklus I, dan mencapai 87% pada siklus II. Anak menjadi lebih aktif, percaya diri, serta mampu menyebutkan, mencocokkan, dan mengurutkan lambang bilangan dengan lebih baik. Dengan demikian, metode learning by doing efektif digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mengenal lambang bilangan pada anak usia dini.
