Abstract

Introduction Cancer causes not only physical symptoms but also psychological distress. Situational forgiveness may help patients cope with emotional burdens, yet little is known about this process among Indonesian cancer patients. Aim This study explored the process and influencing factors of situational forgiveness among cancer patients using a photovoice approach. A qualitative Participatory Action Research design with photovoice was conducted among cancer patients. Result Thematic analysis identified four themes: causes of suffering, denial, coping strategies (social support and religiosity), and forgiveness through reconstruction, gratitude, spiritual beliefs, and healthy lifestyle changes. Conclusion Forgiveness developed gradually from denial toward acceptance, supported by family, community, and faith. Situational forgiveness is a dynamic psychological process shaped by emotional, social, spiritual, and cultural factors. Strengthening family, community, and spiritual support may promote psychological well-being among cancer patients.

Abstract

Sexual violence against men remains underdiscussed and is often marginalized due to prevailing masculinity stigma. This study aims to explore the psychological experiences of male survivors of sexual violence in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara. The research employed a qualitative approach using the photovoice method for data collection, involving five male survivors of sexual violence. Thematic analysis identified four main themes. First, the forms of sexual violence experienced included conventional violence (physical, verbal, and non-verbal) as well as digital sexual violence. Second, survivors experienced revictimization through masculinity stigma and barriers to seeking help. Third, survivors’ psychological responses emerged spontaneously across cognitive, affective, and conative domains. Fourth, survivors developed psychological capital in the form of self-efficacy, optimism, and resilience. This study highlights that the psychological experiences of male survivors are complex and shaped by gender norms and social contexts, thus requiring inclusive and gender-sensitive approaches.

Abstract

Introduction Depression among adolescents with antisocial behavioral tendencies is often hidden behind observable behaviors such as rule-breaking, irritability, withdrawal, and interpersonal conflict. Aim This study aimed to explore how depression is experienced and expressed among adolescents with antisocial behavioral tendencies using a participatory Photovoice approach. Result Three interconnected themes emerged: adverse childhood experiences, antisocial coping, and depressive conditions. Family conflict, parental infidelity, bullying, academic pressure, and limited emotional support were associated with participants' negative perceptions of themselves, others, and their future. Antisocial behaviors were described not only as externalizing behaviors but also as maladaptive coping strategies used to manage unresolved emotional distress. Participants also described persistent sadness, loneliness, hopelessness, low self-worth, and social withdrawal as part of their depressive experiences. Conclusion These findings highlight the complex relationship between depression and antisocial behavioral tendencies and demonstrate the value of participatory approaches such as Photovoice in understanding adolescents' subjective emotional experiences.

Abstract

Introduction Domestic Violence has become a widespread issue in society, including Kupang City, with women being the primary victims. Incidents of domestic violence have both physical and psychological impacts on victims, resulting in traumatic experiences. Some women who experience domestic violence choose to divorce. Although research generally reports negative psychological adjustment among female survivors after divorce due to domestic violence, survivors may also demonstrate positive changes in their lives following the crisis caused by trauma. Aim This study explores the forms and processes of Post-Traumatic Growth among divorced female survivors of domestic violence in the city of Kupang. Result Thematic analysis identified five major themes: the dynamics of divorce, self-reflection, the strength to survive, rising from adversity, and making peace with life's circumstances. Conclusion The findings indicate that although the survivors experienced traumatic events, there remained opportunities for positive personal growth through a process of self-reflection, ultimately leading to acceptance of the life circumstances they faced after divorcing due to domestic violence.
