Abstract

The Student Community Service program (KKN) represents a form of student service to the community, oriented towards human resource development and cultural preservation. This article recounts the journey of a KKN team in Nagari Salayo Tanang Bukik Sileh, Solok Regency, West Sumatra, which adopted the Minangkabau philosophy of Alam Takambang Jadi Guru (Nature Unfolded Becomes the Teacher) as the foundation for its flagship program. This key initiative involved Indang dance training for seven female students from SD 12 Salayo Tanang Bukik Sileh, conducted over three weeks with a frequency of two to three practice sessions per week. The *Indang* dance was selected because it is a traditional Minangkabau dance rich in Islamic values and the spirit of togetherness. The activity aimed to cultivate the children's artistic potential while preserving Minangkabau culture amidst the onslaught of modernization. The KKN program culminated in a performance of the Indang dance—the result of the training—marking the conclusion of a full month of community service activities. This article highlights the training process, the dynamics of togetherness, the educational values involved, and the philosophical significance of the experience of leaving as family after arriving as strangers.
