Abstract

Employee mental health plays a crucial role in sustaining organizational productivity, particularly in high-risk industries such as fertilizer and chemical manufacturing. This study aims to identify early psychological distress among employees in fertilizer and chemical companies in Gresik City using the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-29), with particular attention to demographic characteristics and work units. Quantitative research design was employed, using primary data collected through questionnaire distribution. Data analysis included validity and reliability testing, multiple linear regression, coefficient of determination (R²), and simultaneous (F) testing. The SRQ-29 instrument was found to be valid (r = 0.496; p = 0.000) and reliable (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.738). Regression analysis indicated that age and gender significantly influenced SRQ-29 scores, while work unit showed no significant effect. Although all variables collectively affected psychological distress, the explanatory power of the model was very limited (R² = 0.020). These findings suggest that demographic factors contribute only marginally to employee mental health, highlighting the greater importance of other factors such as workload, work-related stress, social support, and physical working conditions. The study underscores the need for early detection mechanisms and comprehensive mental health policies in high-risk industrial settings.

Abstract

Mental health and psychological well-being of workers are important issues in high-risk industries such as coal mining. This study aims to analyze the effect of depression, anxiety, and stress as measured by the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS) on the psychological well-being of coal mine workers at PT X, East Kalimantan. The research design used was quantitative with a cross-sectional approach on 110 workers. Data were collected using the DASS questionnaire and the psychological well-being scale, and analyzed by multiple linear regression after passing through the classical assumption test. The results of the classical assumption test showed that there was no multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, or autocorrelation, but the residual distribution was not normally distributed. The regression equation obtained was Y = 3.835 – 0.219X₁ + 0.022Xâ‚‚ – 0.007X₃. The t-test shows that partially depression, anxiety, and stress do not have a significant effect on psychological well-being (p > 0.05), while the F-test shows that simultaneously the three variables also do not have a significant effect (F count = 0.931; p = 0.429). The coefficient of determination R² = 0.026 indicates that only 2.6% of the variation in psychological well-being is explained by depression, anxiety, and stress, while the remaining 97.4% is influenced by other factors outside the model. These findings imply that efforts to improve the psychological well-being of mine workers should not only focus on reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress, but should also consider organizational factors, the work environment, and positive psychological resources.

Abstract

Workload is one of the critical factors influencing nurses’ productivity in hospital settings. Excessive workload may lead to fatigue, stress, and decreased concentration, ultimately compromising service quality and patient safety. At Pemangkat Regional General Hospital, Sambas Regency, the imbalance between the number of nurses and patients, combined with limited resources, contributes to increased workload and reduced productivity. This study aims to analyze the effect of workload on the work productivity of nurses. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 172 nurses were selected through simple random sampling. The workload variable was measured using the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire III (COPSOQ III), while work productivity was measured using the Indonesian version of the Individual Work Performance Questionnaire (IWPQ). Primary data were collected through self-administered questionnaires, and data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25. Statistical tests included univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses with a 95% confidence level. The Chi-Square test was used to examine the relationship between variables, and linear regression analysis was conducted to determine the influence of workload on productivity. The findings showed that 59.3% of nurses experienced a high workload, and 51.7% were categorized as unproductive. Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between workload and nurse productivity (p = 0.011). The Prevalence Ratio (PR) value of 2.232 (95% CI: 1.200–4.152) revealed that nurses with high workloads are 2.2 times more likely to be unproductive than those with lower workloads. High workload negatively affects nurses’ performance by increasing fatigue, psychological strain, and reducing motivation. Effective workload management through adequate staffing, equitable scheduling, and supportive leadership are crucial to maintain nurses’ well-being and optimize productivity. Workload has a significant affects nurse productivity at Pemangkat Regional General Hospital. Implementing workload control strategies is recommended to sustain productivity and service quality.

Abstract

Introduction: Heavy equipment manufacturing is a high-risk industry that requires effective hazard management and a strong safety culture to prevent workplace accidents. This study explores the maturity level of safety culture in a heavy equipment manufacturing industry in Bekasi, Indonesia, using Fleming's five-stage safety culture maturity model, and identifies the correlation between safety culture maturity and five aspects of organizational factors. Methods: This study used a quantitative cross-sectional design involving 265 employees selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using an online questionnaire. Safety culture maturity was treated as the dependent variable, while the independent variables included Employee Commitment, Management Commitment, Supervisor Commitment, Training, and Communication and Information. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation. Results: The findings indicate that the organization has reached a Cooperating level of safety culture maturity. All five factors showed substantial and statistically significant correlations with safety culture maturity. Management Commitment showed the strongest correlation (ρ = 0.870), followed by Supervisor Commitment (ρ = 0.867), Employee Commitment (ρ = 0.836), Communication and Information (ρ = 0.836), and Training (ρ = 0.811). Conclusion: This research shows how important the factors of organizational commitment, communication, and training are in fostering a proactive safety culture. Heavy equipment manufacturing industries need to regularly assess and analyze the maturity of their safety culture to identify gaps and strengthen areas in need of improvement.
