Abstract

Primary healthcare plays a crucial role as the foundation of an equitable healthcare system, particularly in addressing resource constraints in developing countries. However, its implementation is frequently hindered by systemic barriers, such as inadequate infrastructure and fiscal disparities. This study aims to map the dynamics, challenges, and strategies for strengthening primary healthcare transformation in developing countries through a global comparative approach. The method employed is a literature review, evaluated using the PRISMA flow diagram model to screen articles published over the last five years (2021–2025). The literature search identified research articles across several databases: Google Scholar (n=16,400), PubMed (n=1,277), and ScienceDirect (n=18,123). Based on these databases, a total of 35,800 articles were retrieved. An initial identification based on titles that exactly matched this study resulted in 26,619 selected articles. Screening was then conducted, ultimately resulting in the selection of 5 final articles. The review findings indicate that primary healthcare transformation is multidimensional and encompasses five main pillars: accelerating the adoption of digital technology in rural areas, strengthening the fiscal management governance of local facilities, integrating post-pandemic mental health services, adapting public financing schemes for screening catastrophic diseases, and enhancing the operational resilience of healthcare workers during crises.

Abstract

Environmental health is a global issue with the potential for significant impact on human health. A particular environmental problem that persists, especially in developing countries, is the issue of medical waste. If not properly managed, medical waste can have detrimental effects on the environment. The objective of this literature review is to determine the influence of medical waste on the environment in developing countries using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. Articles were selected based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria from Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. This literature review specifically limits its focus to publications released within the last five years, namely from 2020 to 2024. This review discusses medical waste in Southeast Asian developing countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines, and briefly explores the environmental impacts of this waste. The findings from the analyzed articles indicate that poorly managed medical waste results in severe environmental pollution and disease transmission. The study concludes that medical waste significantly affects environmental health.

Abstract

Failure to complete medical records within the 24-hour mandate due to excessive clinical workloads poses significant risks to patient safety and triggers operational inefficiencies within hospitals. This issue is often linked to suboptimal physician perceptions regarding the integration of automated notification features in Hospital Management Information Systems (HMIS) as a strategic intervention for enhancing documentation discipline. This study aims to evaluate physician perceptions toward the utilization of HMIS notification applications for medical record completion. A literature review was conducted employing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework. Research findings indicate that the implementation of automated notification features within Hospital Information Management Systems (HIMS) effectively enhances medical documentation compliance and service efficiency; however, its success is heavily contingent upon physicians' perceptions of system ease of use and usefulness, aligned with the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). An intuitive and precise user experience is essential for ensuring that this technology is embraced as a practical clinical workflow solution rather than a cognitive burden or administrative barrier, provided it is meticulously designed to mitigate alert fatigue.
