Abstract

Research Objective: Online motorcycle taxi drivers are exposed to prolonged working hours and repetitive physical activities that may increase the risk of work fatigue and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). These conditions can negatively affect drivers’ health and productivity. Understanding the relationship between work fatigue and musculoskeletal complaints is important for developing effective occupational health interventions. This study aimed to analyze the association between work fatigue and musculoskeletal complaints among online motorcycle taxi drivers. Methodology: This study employed a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 100 online motorcycle taxi drivers in Jakarta and Bekasi were selected using accidental sampling techniques. Work fatigue was measured using the Industrial Fatigue Research Committee (IFRC) questionnaire, while musculoskeletal complaints were assessed using the Nordic Body Map (NBM) instrument. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square tests with a 95% confidence level. Results: The results showed that 44% of respondents experienced high fatigue, while 29% experienced moderate fatigue. Musculoskeletal complaints were most commonly reported in the neck (62%), lower back (58%), and waist (55%). Statistical analysis indicated a significant association between work fatigue and musculoskeletal disorders (p = 0.002). Drivers with high fatigue levels had a 4.1-times greater risk of experiencing musculoskeletal complaints compared to those with low fatigue levels (OR = 4.1; 95% CI: 1.8–9.2). Conclusion: There is a significant association between work fatigue and musculoskeletal complaints among online motorcycle taxi drivers. These findings highlight the importance of fatigue management and ergonomic awareness to reduce occupational health risks and improve drivers’ well-being.

Abstract

Research Objective: This study aimed to examine changes in back pain levels and sleep quality following pregnancy exercise among third-trimester pregnant women. Methodology: This quantitative study used a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted in the working area of Cikoneng Health Center, Ciamis Regency, and involved 33 third-trimester pregnant women selected through purposive sampling. Back pain was assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), and sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) before and after four structured pregnancy-exercise sessions over one month. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: Before the intervention, most respondents experienced moderate back pain and poor sleep quality. After the intervention, most respondents reported mild or no back pain, and sleep quality improved. The pretest-posttest differences were statistically significant (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Pregnancy exercise was associated with reduced back pain and improved sleep quality in this single-group preliminary study. The findings support its potential use as a complementary non-pharmacological approach in antenatal care, while controlled studies are still needed.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that requires long-term management, including the implementation of a balanced diet. A balanced diet helps maintain blood glucose levels and prevent complications. The success of diet adherence is greatly influenced by family support, which includes emotional, instrumental, informational, and appraisal support. Lack of family support can become a barrier to patients’ compliance with healthy eating patterns. This study aims to determine the influence of family support on compliance with a balanced diet in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach involving five families of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and direct observation of family support and patient dietary compliance. Of the five families studied, three families demonstrated positive support in the form of assistance with providing healthy food, monitoring meal schedules, and offering motivation. Patients in these families showed high adherence to a balanced diet. Meanwhile, the other two families did not provide sufficient support—they were less involved in dietary management and lacked understanding of the importance of a balanced diet. This resulted in low dietary compliance among those patients. Family support plays an important role in the successful implementation of a balanced diet in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Families that are actively involved in dietary support contribute to better adherence and help prevent complications.
