Abstract

Mathematical communication skills are fundamental competencies that need to be developed from the junior high school level; however, evaluation instruments specifically designed to measure these skills remain scarce. This study aimed to develop a contextual learning-based test instrument to measure the mathematical communication skills of seventh-grade junior high school students on algebra material. This study employed a research and development approach, encompassing stages of blueprint construction, expert validation by three mathematics education lecturers, and a field trial involving 35 seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Citeureup as trial subjects, selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, Cronbach's Alpha, discrimination power test, and difficulty level test through SPSS 25. The results indicate that the developed instrument is valid and reliable, and is therefore suitable for measuring students' mathematical communication skills. Nevertheless, several items still require revision in terms of discrimination power and difficulty level in order to make the instrument more optimal in fostering the improvement of junior high school students' mathematical communication skills. ABSTRAK Keterampilan komunikasi matematis merupakan kompetensi fundamental yang perlu dikembangkan sejak jenjang SMP, namun ketersediaan instrumen evaluasi yang dirancang secara spesifik untuk mengukur keterampilan tersebut masih sangat terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan instrumen tes berbasis pembelajaran kontekstual untuk mengukur keterampilan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP kelas VII pada materi aljabar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian dan pengembangan (research and development) yang mencakup tahapan penyusunan kisi-kisi, validasi ahli oleh tiga dosen Pendidikan Matematika, dan uji coba lapangan yang melibatkan 35 siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Citeureup sebagai subjek uji coba yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Data dianalisis menggunakan korelasi Pearson, Cronbach's Alpha, uji daya pembeda, dan uji tingkat kesukaran melalui aplikasi SPSS 25. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa instrumen yang dikembangkan bersifat valid dan reliabel sehingga layak digunakan untuk mengukur keterampilan komunikasi matematis siswa. Meskipun demikian, beberapa butir soal masih memerlukan revisi pada aspek daya pembeda dan tingkat kesukaran agar instrumen menjadi lebih optimal dalam mendorong peningkatan keterampilan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model on student learning outcomes. Conventional learning, which tends to focus on material memorization,. Therefore, CTL is viewed as a potential solution. The meta-analysis method was employed to synthesize findings from 19 quasi-experimental articles published (2011-2026), utilizing quantitative data. The analysis results indicate that the CTL model significantly enhances student learning outcomes, as evidenced by consistently higher mean scores in the experimental group. The heterogeneity test suggested variability across studies (Q = 69.30, p < .001), yet a significant pooled effect (t = 7.90, p < .001) affirmed the general effectiveness of CTL. Moderator variable analyses (educational level, subject matter, and geographical region) did not reveal significant influences, indicating that these factors do not substantially explain the variability in findings. These findings reinforce the claims of CTL's effectiveness as a student-centered and relevant learning strategy, although further research is necessary to deeply explore the factors that moderate its impact.
