Abstract

Knowledge is an internal factor influencing the selection of postpartum family planning. This study aims to determine the relationship between third trimester pregnant women's knowledge of postpartum family planning and their selection of contraceptive methods. This analytical correlation study used a cross-sectional approach, conducted from February to April 2026 with a sample size of 88 pregnant women. Sampling was performed using probability sampling with systematic random sampling, adhering to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study results showed that the majority (83.6%) of third trimester preganant women had sufficient knowledge, a small minority (3.4%) had poor knowledge, and a majority (69.3%) had poor knowledge regarding service statements. The majority (77.3%) chose to use a contraceptive method. The chi-square test result obtained a p value = 0.024 (< 0.05). Health workers, especially midwives, are expected to optimize education and counseling on postpartum family planning so that pregnant women have a better understanding and are able to make appropriate decisions in choosing postpartum contraception for the sake of maternal health, child health, and family welfare.
