Abstract

Well water in Dusun Gamparan, Sumberharjo, Prambanan, Sleman has Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels exceeding the quality standard, requiring water treatment through filtration. This study aimed to determine the effect of different compositions of filter media A, B, and C on well water TDS levels and to identify the most effective filter medium. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a Pre-Test–Post-Test Without Control Group design. The filtration media consisted of zeolite, cation exchange resin, and activated coconut shell charcoal with compositions of A (10:30:40 cm), B (10:35:35 cm), and C (10:40:30 cm). Samples were collected using a grab sampling technique with nine replications and analyzed using the conductivity method. The average TDS level before filtration was 480 mg/L. After filtration, TDS levels decreased to 377.88 mg/L (21.27%) for media A, 348.77 mg/L (27.62%) for media B, and 294.11 mg/L (38.73%) for media C. The results showed differences in TDS reduction among the filter media. Filter media C was the most effective in reducing well water TDS levels and can be applied for household-scale water treatment.
