Abstract

Abstrak Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat di Desa Cibuluh, Kecamatan Tanjung Siang, Kabupaten Subang bertujuan meningkatkan kualitas air bersih melalui optimalisasi sistem water treatment berbasis aerasi dan filtrasi karbon aktif. Permasalahan utama meliputi kadar besi (Fe) tinggi, kekeruhan, dan warna air yang tidak layak konsumsi. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi diskusi partisipatif dengan masyarakat, survei jalur distribusi air, perbaikan dan instalasi bak penampungan, pemasangan pompa, serta penerapan aerasi dan filtrasi karbon. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan penurunan kadar Fe dari 0,45 mg/L menjadi 0,13 mg/L, kekeruhan mencapai 0 NTU, dan warna air menurun dari 100 PtCo menjadi 45 PtCo. Peningkatan ini menunjukkan efektivitas kombinasi aerasi dan filtrasi karbon dalam meningkatkan kualitas fisik dan kimia air. Selain itu, keterlibatan masyarakat dalam proses instalasi dan pemeliharaan meningkatkan pemahaman dan kemandirian masyarakat dalam pengelolaan sumber daya air. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa teknologi water treatment sederhana berbasis aerasi dan filtrasi karbon merupakan solusi efektif, ekonomis, dan berkelanjutan untuk pengolahan air di daerah pedesaan dengan kandungan Fe tinggi. Kata kunci: water treatment; kualitas air; filtrasi karbon; aerasi. Abstract The community service program in Cibuluh Village, Tanjung Siang Subdistrict, Subang Regency aimed to improve clean water quality through the optimization of a water treatment system based on aeration and activated carbon filtration. The main issues included high iron (Fe) content, turbidity, and water color unsuitable for consumption. Implementation methods comprised participatory discussions with the community, surveys of water distribution networks, repair and installation of storage tanks, pump installation, and the application of aeration and carbon filtration. Results showed that Fe levels decreased from 0.45 mg/L to 0.13 mg/L, turbidity reached 0 NTU, and water color decreased from 100 PtCo to 45 PtCo. These outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of combining aeration and carbon filtration in improving the physical and chemical quality of water. Furthermore, community participation in installation and maintenance activities enhanced their knowledge and self-reliance in managing water resources. This program demonstrates that simple water treatment technology based on aeration and carbon filtration is an effective, economical, and sustainable solution for water treatment in rural areas with high Fe content. Keywords: water treatment; water quality; carbon filtration; aeration.
