Abstract

The relationship between religion and science has become an important topic in the development of modern knowledge, especially in the field of cosmology. The Qur’an, as the holy book of Islam, contains various kauniyah verses that discuss the creation, order, and destruction of the universe. One of the theories in modern cosmology concerning the end of the universe is the Big Crunch theory, which explains the possibility of the universe collapsing again after a period of expansion. This study aims to analyze the relationship between Qur’anic verses and the Big Crunch theory, as well as to explain the integration of religion and science in modern cosmological studies. This research uses a qualitative approach with a library research method. Data were obtained from the Qur’an, tafsir books, scientific journals, and other relevant literature, then analyzed using content analysis and descriptive-critical methods. The results show that several Qur’anic verses, such as Surah Al-Anbiya verse 104 and Surah Az-Zumar verse 67, have a meaningful correlation with the concept of the folding and destruction of the universe in the Big Crunch theory. However, this relationship should be understood proportionally because the Qur’an is not a scientific book, but a source of spiritual and moral guidance. This study indicates that the dialogue between religion and science can develop a holistic, critical, and integrative understanding of the universe.
