Abstract

Agricultural extension workers play a strategic role in improving farmers’ capacity to manage rice farming effectively and sustainably. This study aims to analyze the role of agricultural extension workers in rice farming in Pallantikang Village, Bangkala District, Jeneponto Regency. This research employed a case study method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with rice farmers and agricultural extension workers, and supporting documentation. The results indicate that the role of agricultural extension workers is reflected in technical guidance on rice cultivation, farmer assistance in the application of agricultural technologies, and the provision of motivation and information related to farm management. However, the effectiveness of extension services still faces several constraints, including limited extension intensity, inadequate supporting facilities, and varying levels of farmer participation. Overall, agricultural extension workers have played a fairly good role in supporting rice farming activities; nevertheless, improvements in the quality and continuity of extension services are required to optimize rice farming outcomes.
