Abstract

This study aimed to develop and examine the effectiveness of a multilateral movement learning activity model for improving the physical literacy of elementary school students. Physical literacy was examined as a multidimensional construct that includes physical competence, motivation, confidence, knowledge, and engagement in physical activity. This study used a Research and Development approach adapted from Borg and Gall, consisting of needs analysis, model design, expert validation, limited trial, product revision, and effectiveness testing. The effectiveness test used a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design involving 60 second- and third-grade elementary school students divided into experimental and control groups through cluster random sampling. The instruments consisted of a basic movement competence test adapted from the Test of Gross Motor Development, a physical literacy questionnaire, and a model implementation observation sheet. Data were analyzed using normality and homogeneity tests, N-Gain, independent sample t-test, and Cohen’s d effect size. The results showed that the experimental group achieved higher improvement than the control group in movement competence, motivation and confidence, physical activity knowledge, and physical activity engagement. The posttest comparison showed significant differences across all variables with large effect sizes. The developed model is feasible, practical, and effective for supporting physical literacy-oriented physical education learning in elementary schools.
