Abstract

Coastal areas are transitional areas between terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Mangrove forests are tropical natural resources that have multiple benefits, both in terms of social, economic, and ecological aspects. The purpose of this study was to identify adaptive insects in the Sekotong mangrove forest tourism area. This research method uses a descriptive explorative method to identify types of adaptive insects along the tourist route in the Sekotong mangrove forest tourism area. Several types of adaptive insects that live along the Sekotong Mangrove Forest tourism route were found to be 7 species, namely Menemerus bivittatus, Solenopsis invicta, Lepidoptera, Euploea midamus, Simuliidae, Monomorium carbonarium and Xylocopa virginica. The results of this study were that the Solenopsis invicta species (fire ants) was the most dominant species, followed by Monomorium carbonarium, as found in the Shannon-Wiener diversity index value (H’<1) for all observation plots. The low diversity of insects in the Sekotong mangrove area can be caused by several ecological factors such as mangrove vegetation structure and environmental pressure.

Abstract

The mangrove area of Cemara Beach is an ecosystem that plays an important role in supporting life, including molluscs. This study aims to examine the biodiversity of molluscs in the area and to develop educational poster materials for the Animal Systematics course. The research design used is exploratory with a random sampling method at seven observation stations selected at 30-meter intervals. Samples were collected using tools such as plankton nets and hoes for digging substrate. Environmental parameters were measured using a salinity refractometer for salinity and a pH meter for water pH. The collection data were analysed descriptively to illustrate the diversity of mollusc species found. The Cemara Beach mangrove area has high mollusc biodiversity with Simpson index values of 0.905–0.9224 (very high), Shannon-Wiener 2.468–2.591 (moderate), and evenness 0.8426–0.9533 (very even). Low dominance values (0.07764–0.09503) indicate that no species dominate. Environmental conditions such as temperature (28.5–29°C) and pH (7.6–8.0) support the stability of the mollusc ecosystem. Statistical tests showed significant differences between stations (p = 0.000752), proving that local variations affect community structure.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the diversity of ferns (Pteridophyta) in the Nuraksa Forest Park (Tahura) area and analyze environmental factors that influence their distribution. The study was conducted exploratively in four locations with different habitats. Data were collected through direct observation and morphological identification using a determination key. The results showed that there were 17 species of Pteridophyta from 12 genera and 8 families. This diversity reflects the natural ecosystem conditions. Several species have economic and aesthetic value, such as Diplazium esculentum (vegetables) and Platycerium bifurcatum (ornamental plants). The identification data was used as the basis for compiling a contextual and applicable learning pocket book. This book has been proven to increase students' interest and understanding and encourage awareness of local biodiversity conservation.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and explore the utilization of medicinal plants in the Kerandangan Nature Tourism Park (TWA) located in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with exploratory methods, field surveys and interviews were conducted involving local community members and conservation staff. The study successfully identified 16 species of medicinal plants belonging to various families. The parts of the plants used include leaves, rhizomes, fruits, roots, flowers, and seeds. These plants are traditionally used by the local community to treat various health problems such as digestive disorders, colds, sore throats, wounds, joint pain, menstrual disorders, hypertension, and minor infections. The tropical lowland rainforest ecosystem of TWA Kerandangan provides favorable conditions for the growth and sustainability of these medicinal species. The findings indicate that TWA Kerandangan holds significant potential for the development of traditional medicine and biodiversity conservation. Furthermore, this study emphasizes the importance of documentation and preservation of ethnobotanical knowledge as part of local wisdom, which could support environmental education, community-based conservation, and sustainable economic development.

Abstract

This study examines the use of medicinal plants in the bebubus tradition of the Sasak community in Pringgasela Village, East Lombok. The aim of this study is to understand the utilisation and ethnobotanical role of medicinal plants. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach to understand, describe and analyse aspects of the traditional bebubus culture. Data collection was carried out in April 2025 through interviews with belian (elders) and residents of Pringgasela, followed by analysis using thematic analysis based on the Miles & Huberman model, involving data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the Bebubus tradition remains preserved and is passed down through the generations. The main ingredients used in the Bubus-making process include galangal (Kaempferia galanga), fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), rice (Oryza sativa), fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum), champaca flowers (Magnolia champaca), ylang-ylang flowers (Cananga odorata), and edelweiss (Anaphalis javanica). The people of Pringgasela believe in the efficacy of Bebubus in treating various health issues such as fever in children, denggong, tiwang (itching), and amar ghaib (disturbances caused by supernatural beings).
