Abstract

Objektive: To explore the prophetic dimensions reflected in the character of caregivers at Al-Hambra Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Jombang, East Java, Indonesia, focusing particularly on those with a literary background. The study investigates how caregivers who are also poets influence educational patterns and character formation within the pesantren (Islamic boarding school) setting. Method: Qualitative phenomenological study employs prophetic structuralism, integrating Kuntowijoyo’s prophetic literature (humanization, liberation, transcendence) and Bourdieu’s genetic structuralism (habitus, field, capital). Data were collected through in-depth interviews with Binhad Nurrohmat, a poet and caregiver, and analyzed using Creswell’s six-step interactive model. Results: The findings reveal three interconnected dimensions of prophetic structuralism in Nurrohmat’s literary practice. In the amil dimension, he exercises moral agency by rejecting shirk, slander, and harmful writing through continuous self-evalution. In the amal dimension, poetry becomes a vehicle for outward goodness (honesty, social bonding, da’wah) and inward goodness (gratitude, trust in God, remembrance of death). In the amul dimension, engagement with sufism, Qur’anic narratives, and contemplation of death builds divine awareness. Novelty: Contributing a new theoretical framework, prophetic structuralism, that integrates literary analysis, authorial reflection, and social reception, extending Kuntowijoyo's prophetic literature beyond thematic analysis. Unlike previous studies that focus solely on textual interpretation, this framework combines authorial subjectivity and reader response to offer a more comprehensive understanding of prophetic values in literature. It also demonstrates how pesantren-based education, through caregivers with literary and religious consciousness, shapes students' resilient moral character, thereby supporting SDG 4 (Quality Education), particularly target 4.7.

Abstract

Objective: To explore the poetic transformation of Binhad Nurrohmat from his urban Jakarta period to his spiritually contemplative works in Javanese pesantren culture. It seeks to understand how this poetic shift reconfigures the relationship between literary practice, ethical subjectivity, and spiritual transcendence. Method: The research uses prophetic structuralism, a theoretical synthesis of Pierre Bourdieu's sociology of cultural production (habitus, field, capital) and Kuntowijoyo's Islamic prophetic paradigm (humanization, liberation, transcendence). Data were collected through close reading of Nurrohmat's selected poetry collections published between 2014 and 2021, as well as contextual analysis of his biographical trajectory from Jakarta to Jombang. Results: The findings reveal that Nurrohmat's work embodies a tripartite movement within prophetic structuralism, comprising Amil, Amal, and Amul. First, in the Amil dimension, the poet positions himself as an ethical subject situated between the secular and the sacred realms. Second, in the Amal dimension, poetry functions as a critical social practice. Third, in the Amul dimension, language becomes a medium of contemplative transcendence. The pesantren functions not merely as a backdrop but as a transformative field that reshapes poetic habitus and spiritual capital. Novelty: Contributing prophetic structuralism as a new theoretical framework for analyzing Islamic literature, moving beyond thematic interpretation to integrate authorial habitus, field dynamics, and spiritual capital. It offers a broader reflection on Islamic literary modernity that engages deeply with tradition while performing a critical, spiritually infused aesthetics relevant to post-secular literary discourse and SDG 4 (Quality Education), particularly target 4.7 on education for sustainable development.

Abstract

Objective: How Islamic cultural conscientization is constructed in Indonesian biographical films through pedagogical and semiotic mechanisms. Method: The research adopts a qualitative interpretive-critical design grounded in Freirean conscientization, Peircean semiotics, and postcolonial cultural theory. Data were collected through repeated film observation, time-coded scene documentation, and semiotic transcription of selected cinematic units. Results: The findings indicate that Islamic literacy operates as a cognitive framework for understanding structural inequalities such as colonialism, patriarchy, and feudalism. Affective representations of suffering and moral tension construct empathy as an ethical learning process. Transformative praxis emerges through educational initiatives, organizational leadership, and cultural resistance embedded in cinematic narratives. Novelty: The study develops the Cultural Conscientization Semiotic Pedagogy (CCSP) Model, positioning Indonesian biographical cinema as a medium of Islamic cultural conscientization that integrates cognition, emotion, and social action within SDGsoriented educational discourse.

Abstract

Objective: The study develops a human-centred model of artificial-intelligence-supported critical film literacy for language education and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.7. It examines how Indonesian biographical cinema constructs critical awareness and how those constructions can organise responsible AI-supported learning. Method: A qualitative interpretative-critical reanalysis examined Guru Bangsa: Tjokroaminoto, Kartini, and Sultan Agung: Tahta, Perjuangan, dan Cinta. Verbal, visual, narrative, auditory, and cultural signs were analysed through Peircean semiotics, Freirean critical pedagogy, and Bhabha's postcolonial concepts. Abductive cross-film coding organised the evidence into cognitive, affective, and praxis-oriented dimensions and guided pedagogical model derivation. Results: The films construct structural awareness through education, letters, books, public speech, cultural memory, and symbolic spaces; ethical engagement through confinement, exploitation, grief, and responsibility; and transformative agency through organisation, emancipatory literacy, negotiation, leadership, and cultural transmission. These patterns support a six-stage cycle: human first reading, AI-generated alternative interpretation, evidence verification, cultural-bias audit, dialogic synthesis, and independent ethical language production. Novelty: The study integrates critical film literacy, language learning, AI literacy, postcolonial interpretation, and SDGs-oriented education in one operational didactic-semiotic model. Human judgement functions as the organising principle of AI use, while SDG 4.7 provides the central educational purpose and SDGs 5 and 16 provide linked contribution pathways.
