Abstract

Anemia among adolescent girls is a health problem affecting fitness, learning concentration, productivity, and reproductive health readiness. This community service activity aimed to improve adolescents' knowledge of anemia, strengthen understanding of iron tablet consumption, and promote early detection through anemia screening at SMA Nahdlatul Ulama I Gresik. The methods included coordination with school and school health unit staff, educational media preparation, interactive counseling, nutrition education, iron tablet consumption guidance, anemia screening, brief counseling, and evaluation using questionnaires/quizzes and participant feedback. The activity was conducted from 8 to 30 November 2024 with school facility support and teacher/UKS assistance. The results showed improved adolescents' understanding of anemia risks, iron-rich dietary patterns, proper iron tablet consumption, and the importance of periodic health checks. The outputs included an activity report, article draft, and educational media used during implementation. This school-based program may strengthen sustainable prevention of anemia among adolescent girls.

Abstract

Stunting remains a chronic nutritional problem requiring family-based promotive and preventive interventions, particularly in child feeding and beverage practices. This community service aimed to improve maternal nutrition literacy and cadre capacity regarding appropriate complementary feeding and limitation of sugar-sweetened beverages in Sawotratap Village, Gedangan, Sidoarjo. The program consisted of partner coordination, baseline survey, interactive education, demonstration of local food-based complementary menus, emergency menu simulation, pre-test and post-test evaluation, skills observation, and one-month monitoring. Participants included 47 mothers of children under five, 15 Posyandu cadres, and 8 village representatives. The mean knowledge score increased from 59.2 to 88.5, with an average gain of 29.3 points; 85% of participants improved by at least 25 points. During practice, 82% of mothers were able to arrange age-appropriate menus and 78% determined adequate animal protein portions. One-month monitoring indicated that 58% of families reduced sweetened beverage consumption and 61% of mothers provided animal protein at least four times per week. Participatory education combined with demonstrations may strengthen child feeding behavior and household nutrition preparedness.

Abstract

Indonesia is a disaster-prone country due to its location within the Pacific Ring of Fire. This condition requires communities, including school-age children, to have basic preparedness and first aid skills in emergency situations. Elementary school students need to be equipped with knowledge and practical skills in first aid to provide initial assistance before professional help arrives. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge, preparedness, and practical skills of students at SDN 1 Sawotratap, Gedangan District, Sidoarjo Regency, in integrated disaster management with a focus on first aid. The program was conducted through needs analysis, partner coordination, interactive education, demonstration, integrated disaster simulation, skill observation, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test methods. The results showed an improvement in students’ knowledge of first aid and disaster evacuation procedures. After the intervention, the average knowledge score increased by 80% regarding the recognition of basic medical equipment, wound dressing techniques, and self-evacuation procedures. Students were also able to practice basic first aid techniques through simulation and showed calmer responses when facing disaster scenarios. This program also produced a draft pocket guide on disaster first aid as a sustainable educational medium for the school. Integrated disaster management simulation focusing on first aid is an effective practical education strategy to improve elementary school students’ preparedness. This activity is expected to serve as a school-based empowerment model in developing young generations who are disaster-aware and capable of acting as first responders in school and family environments.

Abstract

Schools are strategic settings for cultivating disaster awareness from an early age, yet school communities often lack adequate knowledge, evacuation skills, and coordination mechanisms. This community service program aimed to strengthen disaster preparedness at SDN 1 Punggul, Sidoarjo, through education, demonstration, simulation, and institutional reinforcement. The program was conducted from 11 March to 2 May 2025 using a participatory approach that included partner coordination, development of communication and educational media, interactive counseling, drop-cover-evacuate practice, basic first aid, drills using evacuation routes and assembly points, and establishment of a School Disaster Preparedness Team. Evaluation used quizzes or question-and-answer sessions, drill observation, and participant feedback. The activities improved understanding of hazards and early warnings, supported more orderly evacuation skills, produced better coordinated collective responses, increased familiarity with emergency facilities, and generated educational media and a clearer division of preparedness roles. This school-based program can support sustained preparedness habits when reinforced through periodic drills and standardized evaluation.
