Abstract

The understanding and appreciation of the Lodong Me ritual in relation to the sacrament of baptism by the Rawa tribe in the Parish of the Virgin Mary Queen of Tanarawa remains minimal. This is because the congregation tends to consider the Lodong Me ritual more important. Consequently, most congregation members prioritize the Lodong Me ritual over the Sacrament of Baptism. This study aims to explore the deeper meaning of the Lodong Me ritual in relation to the Sacrament of Baptism. The method used is a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach through interviews and documentation with traditional elders, parish priests, religious teachers, and congregation members. The collected data is processed and presented phenomenologically. The results indicate that the congregation's understanding of the meaning of the Lodong Me ritual and the Sacrament of Baptism remains very limited. This can be improved through catechesis and faith-building activities, which are expected to enhance the congregation's understanding of the Sacrament of Baptism.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the important role of the Church as the communion of God's people in fostering and accompanying Catholic Youth (Orang Muda Katolik [OMK]) as the future generation of the Church. The Station Head (Ketua Stasi) is responsible for strengthening community fellowship, organizing pastoral activities, and mentoring Catholic youth to remain actively involved in the life of the Church. This study aims to analyze the role of the Station Head in enhancing the participation of Catholic Youth at Saint Theresia Waijarang Station. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through interviews and observations involving the Station Head, Catholic youth, and members of the congregation. The findings indicate that the Station Head's direct involvement in youth activities has not been fully optimized due to other professional responsibilities. As a result, some Catholic youth feel they receive insufficient attention and guidance, which affects their motivation to participate in Church activities. Nevertheless, the Station Head continues to provide support, guidance, and supervision for various pastoral programs. At the same time, Catholic youth remain actively engaged in Church activities because they recognize their responsibility as the future generation and backbone of the Church. The study concludes that effective collaboration among the Station Head, the congregation, and Catholic youth is essential for strengthening ministry, fostering faith formation, and creating an active, harmonious, and sustainable Church community.

Abstract

This study was motivated by a shift in public understanding of the *weda rewa tuke mbaru* ritual, which is often regarded as the complete validation of marriage, leading some couples to live together before receiving the Catholic Sacrament of Marriage. This study aims to examine the meaning of the *weda rewa tuke mbaru* ritual, identify the factors causing misconceptions about it, and analyze its relevance to Christian values and Catholic family life. A qualitative method with a descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through structured interviews and documentation involving 11 informants, including a priest, traditional elders, the station leader, the Basic Ecclesial Community (KUB) leader, married couples, and a catechist at St. Francis Xavier Station, Maras. The findings indicate that the *weda rewa tuke mbaru* ritual symbolizes respect for women and their families, serves as formal recognition of the relationship between the bride and groom, and functions as a social and moral bond within the Manggarai customary marriage tradition. The ritual also reflects the values of fidelity, responsibility, and togetherness, which are consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Sacrament of Marriage. However, misconceptions remain, as some people consider the ritual sufficient justification for cohabitation without receiving the sacrament. These misconceptions are influenced by limited religious understanding, modernization, and inadequate pastoral guidance. The study concludes that the ritual remains relevant when understood as a customary tradition that supports, rather than replaces, the Catholic Sacrament of Marriage.
