Abstract

Socio-cultural capital sourced from local wisdom has an important role in shaping the social morality, especially in communities that still maintain traditional values. This study aims to examine the role of local wisdom as a form of socio-cultural capital in shaping the social morality of the community in Biak Numfor Regency. This research used a qualitative approach with sociological studies. The data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, involving customary leaders, community leaders, and local residents. The results showed that local wisdom functions as a socio-cultural capital that is manifested in the values of togetherness, social solidarity, trust, and social norms that regulate the collective behavior of the community. Socio-cultural capital plays a role in the process of internalizing social morality through socialization mechanisms, informal social control, and the inheritance of values across generations. However, the process of modernization and social change also affect the sustainability of local wisdom practices and the effectiveness of socio-cultural capital in shaping social morality of community. This study confirms that strengthening local wisdom as socio-cultural capital is an important strategy in maintaining social cohesion and shaping the social morality of Biak Numfor Regency community amid the dynamics of social change.
