Abstract

Increasingly complex social changes require education to be oriented not only toward academic achievement but also toward character development. One effort Schools can make to support character education is through extracurricular activities that provide social learning experiences and direct value instillation. This study aims to analyze the influence of extracurricular activities on character development in high school students through a literature review of various published quantitative studies. The research method used was a literature review of ten quantitative research articles relevant to the research topic. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and qualitatively to comprehensively illustrate the relationship between the two variables. The results of the study indicate that student involvement in extracurricular activities has a positive relationship with character development, particularly in aspects of discipline, responsibility, cooperation, leadership, and religious character. Religious extracurricular activities tend to contribute more to strengthening religious character, while non-religious activities such as Scouting play a greater role in developing students' social and personal character. Overall, the effectiveness of extracurricular activities in character development is influenced by the intensity of student involvement, the consistency of program implementation, and the support of the school environment and culture. Therefore, extracurricular activities need to be managed in a planned and sustainable manner as a strategic part of implementing character education at the high school level.

Abstract

School culture is a crucial factor in shaping the character of high school students, as it serves as a social environment that continuously influences students’ attitudes, values, and behavior. This study was conducted to analyze the impact of school culture on the character development of high school students through a literature review approach. A literature review was employed as the method to analyze journals published in 2020 and later that are relevant to the themes of school culture and student character. The findings of the analysis indicate that school culture influences the development of students’ character, particularly in terms of discipline, responsibility, social character, and religious character. The most influential elements of school culture include teachers serving as role models, the consistency of school rules, the instillation of positive values, and a supportive school climate. This meeting underscores that school culture functions not merely as a set of formal rules, but as a system of values internalized through daily practices within the school environment. Consequently, a deliberate and sustained school culture serves as a critical strategy in supporting the success of character education at the high school level.

Abstract

The learning motivation of high school students can be influenced by various factors, including the family environment as the primary educational setting. This study was conducted to analyze the impact of the family environment on the learning motivation of high school students. The study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The study population included all previous studies discussing the family environment and student learning motivation at the high school level, while the study sample consisted of relevant national scientific articles that met the inclusion criteria. Data collection was conducted by identifying, selecting, and reviewing journal articles that aligned with the study’s focus. The data were analyzed using descriptive-qualitative analysis, which synthesized the research findings to identify patterns of the family environment’s influence on students’ learning motivation. The research results indicate that the family environment generally has a positive and significant effect on students’ learning motivation, as reflected in parental attention, parenting styles, emotional support, a conducive home environment, and the availability of learning facilities. Therefore, the family environment plays a crucial role in fostering students’ learning motivation and needs to be optimized through collaboration between families, schools, and education policymakers.
