Abstract

The cultivation of white oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) requires a growing medium that contains nutrients to support their growth and productivity. The use of agricultural waste in the form of corn cobs and husks with the addition of rice water nutrients has the potential to be an environmentally friendly and economically valuable alternative growing medium. This study aims to determine the effect and effectiveness of using corn cobs and corn cobs with rice washing water nutrients as a growing medium on the growth and productivity of white oyster mushrooms. This study used a quantitative method with an experimental research design through a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 6 treatments and 5 replicates. Data analysis used a one-way ANOVA test, followed by a Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at a 5% level. The results showed that the use of corn cob and cob planting media with rice washing water nutrients had a significant effect on white oyster mushroom cultivation. The 100% corn cob treatment (K2) was effective for mycelium growth and cap width, while the 100% corn husk treatment (K1) was effective in increasing the number of fruit bodies and stem length. The combination of 50% corn husk and 50% corn cob (K5) was the most effective treatment, producing the highest productivity based on fresh harvest weight.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of different doses of kasgot fertilizer on the growth of green mustard (Brassica juncea L.) cultivated in river sediment soil using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with six fertilizer dose levels (0–50%) and five replications. The observed parameters included plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, and fresh weight. The results showed that kasgot fertilizer had a significant effect on several growth parameters, particularly plant height at 10–15 days after planting (DAP), stem diameter at 15–30 DAP, number of leaves at 20–30 DAP, and leaf area at 5–20 DAP, with the K3 treatment (30% kasgot + 70% river sediment soil) producing the best vegetative growth response. However, kasgot application did not significantly affect fresh weight at harvest, indicating that the sufficient nutrient availability in river sediment soil limited the plant response to additional fertilizer. Overall, although the K3 dose effectively enhanced vegetative growth, statistically the application of kasgot fertilizer did not have a significant effect on the final biomass of green mustard plants.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze and compare the levels of pesticide residues of chlorpyrifos and mancozeb in green beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) marketed in traditional and modern markets in Surabaya City. The research employed a quantitative survey method with a comparative approach. Green bean samples were collected from several traditional and modern markets and analyzed in the laboratory using Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed that chlorpyrifos and mancozeb residues were detected in all samples from both market types. However, the measured residue levels were still below the established Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs). Generally, pesticide residue levels in green beans from traditional markets tend to be higher than those from modern markets. These differences were presumably related to variations in distribution systems, postharvest handling, and quality standards applied in each market. The findings indicate that green beans marketed in Surabaya generally meet food safety standards, although continuous monitoring of pesticide residues in fresh vegetables remains necessary

Abstract

The use of pesticides in the cultivation of baby oranges (Citrus sinensis) is intended to control pests and diseases; however, it may leave residues on the fruit that can affect food safety. This study aimed to compare pesticide residue levels in baby oranges marketed in traditional and modern markets in Surabaya City and to assess their safety based on the applicable maximum residue limits (MRLs). The study was conducted in October 2025 using a survey approach and laborator analysis. Orange samples were collected from Keputran Market as a representative of traditional markets and Hokky Fruit Supermarket as a representative of modern markets. Pesticide residue analysis was performed using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) to detect the active ingredients chlorpyrifos and profenofos. The results showed that chlorpyrifos residues, both methyl and ethyl forms, were not detected in any of the baby orange samples. Profenofos residues were detected in several samples; however, their levels were below the maximum residue limits specified in SNI 7313:2008. Overall, baby oranges marketed in both traditional and modern markets in Surabaya City are considered safe for consumption. Nevertheless, the presence of low levels of pesticide residues indicates the need for prudent pesticide use and continuous monitoring to ensure food safety for consumers.
