Abstract

The development of higher education in Indonesia is characterized not only by the growing number of students but also by shifts in their lifestyles and needs. Students are no longer solely focused on academic activities; many choose to work part-time to support their financial needs and gain practical experience. This decision is influenced by various factors, particularly parents’ economic status and students’ work motivation. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effect of these two variables on students’ interest in part-time employment. This research employs a quantitative approach, using questionnaire-based data collected from 398 respondents across three state universities in Purwokerto. The data were analyzed using classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, and hypothesis testing through t-tests and F-tests. The findings reveal that, partially, parents’ economic status significantly influences students’ interest in part-time work, with a significance value of 0.000. Similarly, work motivation also shows a significant effect with the same significance level. Simultaneously, both variables have a significant impact, with a coefficient of determination of 57.1%, indicating a substantial contribution to explaining students’ interest in working part-time.
