Atopic asthma is a form of asthma closely associated with immune responses to environmental allergens. Exposure to indoor allergens, such as house dust mites, mold, and pet dander, contributes to chronic airway inflammation and poor asthma control. This systematic review aimed to identify, select, and synthesize scientific evidence regarding the association between indoor environmental allergen exposure, particularly house dust mites, and asthma control in atopic patients. A systematic literature search was conducted through PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases, covering publications from 2015 to 2026. The keywords used included “house dust mite”, “Dermatophagoides”, “indoor allergens”, “environmental allergen exposure”, “atopic asthma”, “allergic asthma”, and “asthma control”, along with Indonesian terms such as “tungau debu rumah”, “alergen lingkungan rumah”, “asma atopik”, and “kontrol asma”. The initial search identified 128 articles. After removing duplicates and screening titles, abstracts, full texts, and eligibility criteria, 32 articles were included and analyzed in this review. The findings consistently demonstrated that exposure to indoor environmental allergens, particularly house dust mites (Dermatophagoides sp.), mold, and pet dander, was associated with poorer asthma control in atopic patients. Comprehensive allergen exposure reduction interventions showed meaningful clinical benefits. Therefore, indoor environmental assessment and allergen control education should be integrated into asthma management in primary healthcare settings.
