Abstract

Background: Improving the quality of learning in Islamic education, particularly in fiqh subjects, requires the application of appropriate learning models that actively engage students in the learning process. Objective: This study aimed to determine the extent to which the discovery learning model improves student learning outcomes at MA Nurul Huda Tegal. Method: The research employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method and was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Nurul Huda in 2023. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and tests/evaluations. The analysis focused on students' learning mastery scores. The CAR was carried out in four stages: (1) planning, (2) implementation, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. Result: The findings showed that the implementation of the discovery learning model led to an improvement in student learning outcomes in fiqh subjects. Students became more involved in the learning process and demonstrated better understanding and performance across the assessment stages. Conclusion: The discovery learning model is effective in enhancing students’ learning outcomes. It encourages active participation and fosters the ability to generate and realize creative ideas relevant to real-life contexts. Contribution: This study provides valuable insights for educators in Islamic schools, highlighting the potential of discovery learning to improve student engagement and achievement, especially in abstract and conceptual subjects like fiqh.

Abstract

Background: The application of effective teaching methods is essential for improving student learning outcomes, particularly in subjects related to character development, such as Aqidah Akhlak. One proven effective method is Index Card Match (ICM), which combines elements of collaboration and problem-solving in learning. Objective: This study aims to determine the extent to which the application of the Index Card Match (ICM) method can improve student learning outcomes in Aqidah Akhlak at MTs Ash-Shiddiqin. Method: This research uses a quantitative approach with an experimental design. The subjects of the study were eighth-grade students of MTs Ash-Shiddiqin, divided into two groups: the experimental group using the ICM method and the control group using conventional teaching methods. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests to measure the improvement in student learning outcomes. Results: The research findings indicate that the group using the Index Card Match method showed significant improvement in learning outcomes compared to the control group. This improvement was evident from the higher post-test scores in the experimental group. Conclusion: The application of the Index Card Match (ICM) method is proven to be effective in improving student learning outcomes in Aqidah Akhlak. This method can serve as a good alternative for collaborative learning and a deeper understanding of moral concepts. Contribution: This study contributes to the development of active learning methods that can be applied in Aqidah Akhlak education and provides insights for educators to use more interactive and engaging methods to enhance student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Background: Learning evaluation practices still tend to rely on conventional assessments that focus primarily on cognitive aspects, thereby failing to comprehensively capture students’ learning achievements. Objective: This study aims to describe the implementation of authentic assessment in Fiqh lessons at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah and to analyse its impact on students’ conceptual understanding, learning engagement, and the application of Fiqh values. Method: This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis. Findings: The findings indicate that authentic assessment enhances students’ understanding of Fiqh concepts, promotes active participation in the learning process, and facilitates the application of Fiqh values in real-life contexts. Furthermore, authentic assessment enables teachers to holistically evaluate students’ development across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Conclusion: Authentic assessment is an effective and relevant evaluation strategy for Fiqh learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, as it supports meaningful learning and comprehensive student assessment. Contribution: This study contributes empirical and practical insights into the implementation of authentic assessment as a contextual and holistic evaluation alternative in Islamic education, particularly at the elementary level.
