Abstract

This research investigates how past traumatic experiences contribute to shaping the protagonist's life outlook in the novel Seporsi Mie Ayam Sebelum Mati by Brian Khrisna, applying Sigmund Freud's literary psychology framework as its analytical lens. The study is motivated by the recognition that unresolved psychological wounds often influence how a person interprets the self, others, and life in general, as illustrated through the character Ale, who endures childhood bullying, rejection by his social environment, and prolonged loneliness that gradually pushes him toward deep despair. To explore this issue, the research adopts a qualitative method in the form of library research. The novel Seporsi Mie Ayam Sebelum Mati (2025) serves as the principal data source, supported by relevant books, academic journals, and earlier related studies functioning as secondary data. Data were gathered through a combination of close reading, careful observation, and systematic note-taking, then processed using the Miles and Huberman analytical model, which involves data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion verification. Key elements of Freud's psychoanalytic theory namely the id, ego, superego, the unconscious mind, and defense mechanisms are employed to trace the connection between the protagonist's past trauma and the formation of his worldview. The results of this study are expected to enrich theoretical perspectives within literary psychology and provide practical value for teachers, students, educational institutions, and future researchers interested in applying similar approaches to the appreciation of literary works.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the personality dynamics of the main character in the novel Hello by Tere Liye based on the psychoanalytic perspective of Sigmund Freud. As a literary work, a novel not only presents a story but also portrays various aspects of human life, including inner conflicts and psychological conditions of the characters. The main character in Hello experiences emotional struggles, psychological pressure, and conflicts between personal desires and moral demands. This research employs a literary psychology approach focusing on Freud’s personality structure consisting of the id, ego, and superego. The method used is descriptive qualitative research with data collection techniques through library research and note-taking of relevant quotations from the novel. The results show that the personality dynamics of the main character are reflected in the dominance of the id through spontaneous instinctive impulses, the role of the ego as a mediator between desires and reality, and the function of the superego in controlling behavior based on moral values and social norms. The interaction of these three aspects creates inner conflicts that influence the attitudes and actions of the main character throughout the story. Therefore, the novel Hello reveals the complexity of human personality that can be examined deeply through a literary psychology approach.

Abstract

This research is entitled "The Process of Accepting Loss of the Character Bambang in the Novel Sendiri by Tere Liye: A Humanistic Psychology Approach According to Abraham H. Maslow. This study aims to describe and analyze the process of accepting the loss experienced by the character Bambang based on Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory, as well as to explain Bambang's journey toward self-actualization and self-acceptance after losing his life partner, viewed through the humanistic psychology perspective of Carl Rogers. The method used is a qualitative method with library research. Data sources consist of primary data, namely the novel Sendiri by Tere Liye (2024), and secondary data from supporting literature. Data were collected through reading, listening, and note-taking techniques, then analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis with Miles and Huberman's interactive model. The results show that the loss of a life partner profoundly shook Bambang's needs at the third and fourth levels of Maslow's hierarchy. Through a long inner journey, Bambang gradually achieved psychological reconstruction toward self-actualization. From Rogers' perspective, Bambang succeeded in becoming a fully functioning person: open to experience, living existentially, and regaining trust in himself. This research demonstrates that literature can be a valid and meaningful medium for understanding the psychological dynamics of humans facing loss.

Abstract

The search for identity is a crucial process experienced by individuals in understanding their identity, life values, and purpose. This phenomenon is widely represented in literary works, one of which is Tere Liye's novel Selamat Tinggal. This study aims to describe the forms of identity search experienced by the main character and explain the process of identity search based on Carl Thompson's theory. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with library research. The primary data source was Tere Liye's novel Selamat Tinggal, while secondary data sources were obtained from books, journals, and relevant previous research. Data collection techniques used reading and note-taking, while data analysis utilized content analysis. The results show that the main character's search for identity is manifested through moral awareness, education, self-awareness, and social interaction. Furthermore, the process of identity search occurs through life experiences, inner conflict, self-reflection, changes in perspective, and the formation of a new identity. Based on Carl Thompson's perspective, the character's journey is not merely a physical displacement, but an inner journey that results in identity transformation. Thus, the novel Selamat Tinggal contains moral values, character education, and life reflections that are relevant to society.
