Abstract

The low learning outcomes in Indonesian among second-grade elementary school students, caused by conventional, teacher-centered learning, lead to low student engagement, understanding, and literacy skills, so more interactive and collaborative learning innovations are needed. This study aims to determine the effect of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning model, combined with the fill-in-the-blanks technique, on students' Indonesian language learning outcomes. This is a quantitative study using a quasi-experimental design with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design, involving 42 second-grade students in the experimental and control groups. Data were collected through pretest and posttest measures and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including an independent-samples t-test and effect size estimates. The results showed that applying the STAD model with the fill-in-the-blanks technique significantly improved student learning outcomes compared with conventional learning. In addition, applied learning increased students' activity, cooperation, and understanding of the material. This study concludes that integrating the STAD model with the fill-in-the-blanks technique is effective in improving Indonesian language learning outcomes among elementary school students. The implications of this research underscore the importance of innovative learning models that integrate collaborative and literacy activities to support meaningful learning in line with the demands of the Independent Curriculum.
