Abstract

This study examines the influence of social media on civic engagement among Indonesian millennials. The research aims to analyze how digital platforms shape political awareness, civic participation, and collective action among young citizens. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted involving 250 millennial respondents from major urban areas in Indonesia. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The findings reveal that Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter are the dominant platforms for civic engagement. Social media significantly increases political awareness, supports civic expression, and encourages participation in online and offline civic activities. Statistical analysis shows a strong positive relationship between social media use and civic engagement. However, misinformation, polarization, and slacktivism remain major barriers to meaningful participation. The study highlights that social media functions both as an enabler and a challenge for democratic participation. These findings contribute to digital civic engagement theory and provide practical implications for policymakers, educators, and digital platform governance.
