Abstract

Student politics play a significant role in shaping democratic values, leadership skills, and awareness among students. But it is being tainted, especially in university campus, by violence, party interests, and personal gains. Student politics has both negative and positive impacts. Based on primary data which have been collected from 100 respondents, this study aims to assess the role of student politics in Bangladesh from July, 2024 to the present, knowing the opinions of people about student politics, evaluating the impacts of student politics on academic activities and governance, and identifying the positive and negative aspects of student political involvement. A purposive sampling method was applied, focusing on students, faculty, and student leaders. Findings reveal a dual nature of student politics: while it fosters political awareness and leadership, it also contributes to academic disruptions, administrative conflicts, and campus violence. The research concludes by offering practical reform recommendations to ensure that student politics contributes positively to democracy and institutional integrity, emphasizing the urgent need for democratization, transparency, and accountability in student political practices.
