Abstract

Students' low mathematical creative thinking skills are the motivation for this study. The aim of this research is to develop context-based student worksheets (LKPD) that assess high school students' mathematical creative thinking abilities. This study uses the ADDIE development model with five stages (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), and the research is limited to the implementation stage. The subjects were Grade X students of SMAN 2 Majalengka. The instruments used included practicality questionnaires for teachers and students, validity questionnaires for media and material experts, and effectiveness tests through small-scale trials. A Likert scale was used to collect practicality and validity data, while N-gain analysis was applied to measure effectiveness. The results showed that LKPD with a contextual approach was valid, with an average material expert score of 3.17 and media expert score of 3.50. The practicality was also very good, with teacher practicality at 96.15% and student practicality at 87.26%. The average effectiveness was in the moderate category with an N-gain value of 0.38. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the developed LKPD is feasible, practical, and effective in improving students’ mathematical creative thinking skills. The contribution of this research lies in providing empirically tested, context-based LKPD that can be used as an innovative learning resource to foster mathematical creative thinking in high school students.

Abstract

The ability to think creatively in mathematics is crucial for pupils to deal with a variety of difficult problems in the twenty-first century. The purpose of this study is to examine how students creatively solve contextual probability questions using Polya's four stages of problem-solving. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, 32 twelfth-grade students from a Majalengka public high school served as research subjects based on the written exam results, three students were purposefully chosen to participate in in-depth interviews, each of whom represented the categories of high, medium, and poor creative thinking abilities. Semi-structured interviews, observations, and contextual essay examinations were used to gather data. The study's findings indicate that while most students can follow the solution plan methodically, they still struggle with comprehending the issue and analyzing the findings. Just 16% of students completed their final reflection successfully. based on the written exam results, three students were purposefully chosen to participate in in-depth interviews, each of whom represented the categories of high, medium, and poor creative thinking abilities.

Abstract

This study explores students’ creative thinking skills in mathematics through a descriptive qualitative approach. The purpose of the research is to examine how students construct and express original ideas when solving open-ended mathematical problems. Participants were selected purposively based on their prior experience with similar tasks, and data were obtained from students’ written responses to problem-solving activities designed to promote divergent thinking. These tasks emphasized multiple solution strategies, reasoning justification, and reflection on originality. The data were analyzed thematically using NVivo 14, focusing on creativity indicators such as fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The findings indicate that some students were able to demonstrate creative approaches in generating diverse and original solutions, while others experienced difficulties due to limited conceptual understanding and time constraints. These results underscore the need for instructional practices that strengthen prerequisite knowledge, offer varied task designs, and allocate sufficient time to enhance students’ mathematical creativity. Overall, the study contributes to the development of pedagogical strategies that foster creative problem-solving in mathematics classrooms.
