Abstract

This community service activity is motivated by the extraordinary potential of Papua's biodiversity, especially the Gogauke plant (Centella asiatica), whose utilization has so far been limited to traditional uses and has not been optimally explored through the touch of appropriate biotechnology. On the other hand, a group of teachers who are members of the Science Subject Teachers' Conference (MGMP) in Jayapura Regency face challenges in integrating contextual project-based learning with local resources. The main objective of this activity is to improve teachers' practical skills and entrepreneurial insight through training in making liquid soap with the addition of gogauke bio-oil as a natural antibacterial and antioxidant agent. The method used is an active participatory approach with stages that include the explanation of fundamental bioprocess theory, demonstration of saponification techniques, and direct practice (learning by doing) by participants. This activity was carried out at SMP Negeri 1 Sentani with the involvement of 27 science teachers. The results of the community service showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of the use of bio-oil phytochemicals in household products and mastery of stable liquid soap formulation techniques. The resulting product has good organoleptic characteristics, with a distinctive bio-oil aroma and adequate foaming power. The implications of this activity are the creation of a biotechnology teaching module based on local research that can be implemented in the Independent Curriculum, specifically in the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5), and can also encourage the birth of school-based entrepreneurial initiatives in the Jayapura region.
