This study aimed to improve the reading comprehension skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Mlatinorowito through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model supported by comic media. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which was conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 21 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests, classroom observations, interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed descriptively using both quantitative and qualitative approaches by calculating the mean scores, learning mastery percentages, and interpreting the observation findings. The results demonstrated that the implementation of comic-assisted Problem Based Learning gradually improved students' reading comprehension skills throughout the research cycles. The average score increased from 68.00 in the pre-cycle to 75.81 in Cycle I and reached 86.43 in Cycle II. Likewise, learning mastery improved from 42.86% in the pre-cycle to 61.90% in Cycle I and finally reached 90.48% in Cycle II, exceeding the predetermined success criterion. In addition, the learning model encouraged students to participate more actively, facilitated their understanding of reading materials, enabled them to identify key information and main ideas, and improved their ability to draw appropriate conclusions. These findings indicate that comic-assisted Problem Based Learning can serve as an effective instructional alternative for enhancing elementary school students' reading comprehension skills.
