Abstract

The development of digital technology in vocational education encourages the use of design applications as learning media that can improve students' creativity and visual abilities. In artistic makeup learning, careful design planning is an important stage before the process of executing body painting works. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using Canva and CorelDRAW applications in designing iconographic designs as body painting work concepts for makeup students. The study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The initial stage of the study was carried out through validation of the learning design using the expert judgment method by three experts. The results of the expert validation showed a feasibility percentage of 95.3% with a very valid category. The results showed that the validation of the instrument by three experts obtained results with a very valid category, which indicates that the instrument meets the aspects of visual aesthetics, elements and principles of art, creativity of beauty products, as well as meaning and visual representation in fantasy makeup body painting works. The results of the independent sample t-test also showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.013 (<0.05) which indicates a significant difference between the use of Canva and CorelDRAW applications in the design process, with the final result being that the design in CorelDraw has a higher value than the design with Canva. The integration of digital technology, a project-based learning approach, and the use of iconography based on local wisdom can support the development of creativity and artistic value in students' work.

Abstract

The use of fake blood in character makeup generally still relies on synthetic materials that have the potential to cause skin irritation; therefore, safer alternatives based on natural ingredients are needed. This study aims to determine the feasibility of fake blood made from dried roselle flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa L) as an alternative for character makeup, reviewed from aspects of safety and user preference. The research method used was descriptive quantitative, with data collection techniques carried out through clinical tests and preference tests involving respondents using structured assessment instruments. The results showed that all sensory test indicators obtained an average score of 88%, categorized as highly valid. Furthermore, the clinical test results were categorized as safe, with no indications of irritation, allergic reactions, or other skin disorders. In addition, the preference test results showed an average total score of 90%, categorized as highly favorable, indicating that the product is highly feasible in terms of color, texture, and user comfort. Based on these findings, fake blood made from dried roselle flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa L) is safe and feasible to be used as an alternative in character makeup and has the potential to be developed as a natural-based cosmetic product.

Abstract

Indonesia possesses a wealth of natural and cultural resources that can be utilized as a source of inspiration for creative learning, particularly in the field of cosmetology. Integrating the two through an appropriate learning approach is expected to enhance students' creativity and skills. This study aims to determine the implementation of the fusion of nature and culture in Serak Owl and Sulawesi Batik designs through centered learning. The method used was descriptive qualitative, with 15 Beauty students from the class of 2022 as subjects. Data were collected through observation sheets using expert judgment and student response questionnaires, then analyzed using descriptive percentages. The results showed that the work quality test obtained an average score of 87.6%, categorized as very valid, while the liking test obtained a score of 93%, categorized as very liked. This indicates that the works are of high quality and very well received by respondents. The conclusion of this study is that the implementation of the fusion of nature and culture through a centered learning approach is effective in enhancing creativity, work quality, and the relevance of practice-based learning.
