Abstract

Malay Islamic education plays an important role in shaping the character, morality, and identity of society; however, in the era of social media, these values face challenges arising from the rapid flow of information, changing interaction patterns, and the weakening of scientific authority. On the other hand, digitalisation also provides opportunities for the development of Islamic preaching, learning, and technology-based access to knowledge. This study aims to examine the role of Malay Islamic education in strengthening the character of younger generations in the digital era. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method through a literature review of classical and contemporary sources related to Malay Islamic education, adab, digital culture, and technological literacy. The findings reveal that Malay Islamic education, developed through surau, madrasahs, and Islamic boarding schools, not only strengthens religious understanding but also instils character values, social ethics, and adab as moral filters in the use of digital technology. These values are relevant in shaping younger generations who are moral, critical, and wise in responding to technological developments in the social media era. Therefore, the strengthening of Malay Islamic education should continue to be integrated with digital literacy in a contextual and sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept and practice of religious moderation within the framework of Malay Islam and its relevance in maintaining social harmony in the modern era. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research, drawing on various scholarly sources such as journals, books, and related documents. The findings reveal that religious moderation in Malay society is reflected through the integration of Islamic values with local culture, based on the principle “custom is founded upon Islamic law, and Islamic law is founded upon the Qur’an.” Values such as tolerance, balance, justice, and deliberation serve as the foundation for building harmonious social life. However, religious moderation also faces challenges in the modern era, including globalization, digital media influence, and the emergence of extreme religious ideologies. Therefore, strengthening strategies are needed through education, the role of religious and traditional leaders, as well as the wise use of digital media. This study concludes that religious moderation within the Malay Islamic framework plays a significant role in creating a tolerant, inclusive, and civilized society.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the internalization of tawhid and Islamic character in schools/madrasah as an effort to form students who are faithful, noble in character, and capable of facing the challenges of the times. The method used is library research (library research) by analyzing various scientific sources in the form of relevant national and international journal articles in the last five years. The results of the study show that tawhid is the main foundation in Islamic education that not only functions as a theological concept, but also as a basis in the formation of Islamic character. The internalization of tawhid can be carried out through various strategies, such as curriculum integration, habituation of religious activities, teacher exemplary behavior, and the creation of an Islamic school culture. However, the process faces various challenges, especially in the modern era characterized by technological developments, social environmental influences, and limitations in the roles of teachers and families. Therefore, a comprehensive solution is needed through strengthening the role of teachers, synergy between schools and families, and the wise use of technology. This study affirms that the internalization of tawhid and Islamic character has a strategic role in shaping a generation that is faithful, knowledgeable, and noble in character, so that Islamic education needs to be continuously developed in an adaptive and contextual manner in accordance with the times.
