Abstract

This study aims to analyze Imam Al-Ghazali’s concept of moral education, particularly tazkiyat al-nafs (self-purification), and its relevance in character building among the digital generation. This research employs a qualitative approach through a literature review of Al-Ghazali’s major works, especially Ihya' ‘Ulum al-Din, as well as contemporary literature on moral education and the challenges of the digital era. The data were analyzed descriptively and analytically to identify conceptual relationships between Al-Ghazali’s moral principles and contemporary digital moral issues. The findings indicate that tazkiyat al-nafs, through self-control, moral habituation, and the balance between intellect, faith, and the heart, remains relevant as a foundation for character education. Al-Ghazali’s four moral virtues wisdom, courage, self-restraint, and justice function as an ethical framework for developing moral literacy and digital ethics. This study highlights the importance of contextualizing Al-Ghazali’s thought within contemporary Islamic education.
