Abstract

The increasing accessibility of information in the digital era requires university students to develop intellectual humility when encountering diverse perspectives online. This quantitative study examined the role of self-esteem and narcissism in intellectual humility using multiple regression analysis. Participants were 236 undergraduate students in the Greater Jakarta area aged 18–24 years (M=21.04; SD=1.63). Data were collected using the Multi-dimensional Intellectual Humility Measure (α=.866), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (α=.824), and Narcissistic Admiration and Rivalry Questionnaire (α=.917). Results showed that self-esteem positively predicted intellectual humility (β=.23, p<.001), while narcissistic rivalry negatively predicted intellectual humility (β=−.52, p<.001). These findings highlight the importance of strengthening adaptive self-esteem and reducing defensive rivalry tendencies to support the development of intellectual humility in the digital era.
