Abstract

The presence of women’s movements in rural areas offers an important field for anthropological study, particularly in understanding gender roles, collective action, and local development. This research examines the KWT Mattiro Deceng, a Women Farmers Group located in Karampuang Hamlet, Botolempangan Village, West Sinjai Subdistrict, Sinjai Regency. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The group was established to encourage women’s participation in agriculture, strengthen their skills, and improve household and village economies. Beyond farming activities, the KWT also functions as a social space where members exchange knowledge, build solidarity, and negotiate their roles within family and community life. Since women’s farmer groups are not yet fully integrated into rural development, this study explores the group’s activities, internal dynamics, challenges, and contributions. The findings highlight the importance of collective organization in expanding women’s participation, confidence, and economic opportunities in rural communities.
